BITE

Never Grow Up

I was born at midnight on Christmas eve in 1999 AD, to Mary-Jane and Evan Aliad. My life wasn't tragic, it wasn't something I would wish on anyone, but I knew people who had worse. On December 23rd 2016 my best friend, Quinn, and I went to a concert.
At 11:50 the concert ended. I ran ahead of Quinn, squeezing through the hoards of fans and out the front door. At 11:55 I was outside running around the building, I wanted to get to the back so I could meet my heroes before they got on the bus. At 11:58 I rounded the back of building out of breath. I looked at the snow huffing in air and out frost, it was red. I gasped frozen in place from fear. I heard a voice from behind me whisper in my ear "I always like it more when they run or fight, but easy food is still food."
I couldn't even bring myself to scream from the agony as the teeth pierced my neck. At 11:59 I died. I wasn't even 18, and I never would be.
Remember the beginning, he would say in later years, and you'll always be alright. My death would mean more than any life I could have ever lived, but that doesn't stop me from wishing I had never run ahead.

On the morning of my would be 18th birthday, I woke up with a massive head ache. I sat up in an unfamiliar bed, I was in a dark room I don't recognize. This was definitely a hotel of some kind.
"You're awake." A voice stated with no distinct emotion, making me jump. I looked towards where it came from, there was a shadowy figure I couldn't quite make out.
The figure stood up, he sure was tall. He walked into the dim light coming in through the blinds. Instantly I recognized him, it was Andy Biersack, the lead singer for Black Veil Brides. I could have literally died in that moment, Quinn would be so jealous.
A pit formed in my stomach when I thought of her. She must be worried sick, not seeing me since I ran a head she had to be out of her mind. "Andy, Its an honor, really, like I'm a huge fan, massive really. But like I had a friend with me at the concert and she's like hella worried by now so I gotta like go and stuff." I said rambling a little to much like I usually do.
"Was your friend the blonde that ran a head of you?" He asked empty.
It felt like I was boring him, or like I was just some hung over girl who found her way into his bed, but I knew I was completely sober. "um no, she was behind me, by like a lot. She has short blue hair she's not as big a fan as me so she was gonna catch up with me." I said slightly annoyed he couldn't be bothered with me.
"Well I suppose that's for the best. After last night this is a good thing" He said, and suddenly I remembered what had happened last night.
I touched my neck and felt the teeth marks, cringing at the thought of some strangers saliva on my skin. "I need to get tested for rabies." I whispered. "Oh my god!" I yelled startling Andy. "Their was blood all over the snow! Did you see the guy who did it? Twilight freak bit me. were you the one who saved me?" I asked all in one breathe.
"No. Actually, I am the Twilight freak that bit you." He said and I was very confused.
"What?" I asked scrunching my forehead.
"I bit you last night, you survived. That makes you the rare genetic oddity that creates vampires." He said as if it was completely normal. Well they do say never meet your heroes, they will disappoint you, I just never believed they would be crazy.
"I'm sorry?" It was a question.
"It's fine. Just go make yourself useful and get me something to drink." He said and I laughed dryly.
"Excuse me? Listen bubbles, I might be a bit below your pay grade but I sure as hell ain't your servant. In fact you should be the one serving me hand and foot hoping I don't go to the cops with this. Explain it again as to why you just go around biting random girls necks in the middle of the night." I was yelling ready to fight him to get out.
"There's not a part of you that wants to do everything you can to make me happy?" he said looking into my eyes deeply.
What type of question was that? Is he okay? "Not a molecule." I said defiant.
"Really? Fascinating. First off, I bite men and women alike, just girls flock to me most because most of them are, how you put it, like a massive huge fan of mine. As to why- I'm a vampire. You too by the way." He said settling in at the foot of the bed.
I laughed, but he remained stoic. "You can't be serious right? Like vampires don't exist."
I was still laughing when he walked silently over to the dresser. He slipped on a leather glove and opened the top drawer. He quietly dipped his hand in and retried the rosary I keep on me to honor my grandmother.
He came back and held it out to me. I raised my eyebrow, and he motioned for me to hold out my hand. When I did he slowly and carefully lowered it into my hand so only the cross would touch me. When the crucifix touched my hand a burning sensation shot through me. He quickly returned to rosary to the drawer, as he did I looked down at my hand. Their was a cross shaped burn on my palm, but the really odd thing was that it scared and healed right before my eyes. I was in shock, just sitting their with my mouth slightly agape.
After a long silence I finally spoke, what I said was not the smartest thing but I was genuinely concerned. "I was on my period. Does that mean I will always be on my period?"
Andy looked at me perplexed and a bit disturbed. "No, you don't get your period anymore however you will always be fertile so be careful." After a moment he continued, "Why was that your first question?"
"I don't think I would be able to handle an eternity of nonstop period." I said, honestly still thinking of the horror that could have been.
"Alright. Well get all your questions out now, we will be spending a lot of time together and I would prefer to not spend eternity answering your questions." He said exasperated.
And that's the story of how I became the human equivilent to a misquito.
