Love Me Till It Hurts

Forming the new band (part 2)

A week has passed since the beginning of our search for musicians for our group. I had to fight with my parents to prove the usefulness of what Ellie and I are planning. All they found to me was that I had better spend my energy on something more constructive instead of constantly dreaming of becoming a musician. I would have liked at least the support of my father, who also tried to break into music in his youth. But he followed my mother's advice. He probably does not want me to make the same mistakes as him. They definitely do not understand the place this passion has for me. I'm waiting for my departure for Los Angeles with even more impatience. At least I will not have to endure their bullying on my lifestyle on the other side of the planet.

The audition for Black Veil Brides takes place in a little less than deux weeks now. So it's time for Ellie and me to agree on the composition of the group. We meet at her house to discuss it.

- Warning, the situation is serious ...

Ellie brings together before us the notes we had taken on the candidates. We quickly do two groups and eliminate most of them for a question of musical style that doesn't correspond to ours. We focus first on the drummer. We have retained two candidates as great as the other.

- For me, they both have very different styles but stick very well to the group.
- Yes it's true, but I still have a preference for her.

I hand one of the cards to Ellie.

- I think she suits us more than the other.
- You have a point ... And during the addition we had a very good feeling when she presented herself ...
- So we agree?
- Deal!

We shake hands as if to seal a pact.

The future drummer of our band is called Carole. She is 21 years old. She's not very tall but slender, has long red hair, big black eyes and is already covered with tattoos for her young age. Her passion for drums has followed her since she was nine years old, when she started taking classes, but as far as she can remember, she always liked to tap on things to bring out a rhythm. She has that in her skin. And it feels.

- Well, we just have to announce her.

I'm about to dial her number but Ellie cuts me off.

- Wait, we should perhaps agree on the bass player too!
- Yes you're right ... But I think we have the same person in mind since the beginning right?
- If you talk about Camille, for me it's my favorite!
- I think it's decided then!

Without necessarily doing it on purpose, we have just composed an all-female group. A decision that may weigh in the balance the day of the audition. In general, metalheads have respect for girls who know how to be up to the challenge. And we intend to show them that we can be up to the challenge.

I call Carole first to tell her she's being to be our drummer. Hoping that joining our band always fancy her as much

- Hello?
- Hello Carole! It's Amy! We saw each other a few days ago for an audition!
- Yes of course Amy! I was looking forward to this call!
- Well, I have good news to announce you ...

I don't have time to finish my sentence, that I am forced to move the phone away from my ear following the cry of hysteria from Carole.

- Hem ... I deduce that you're still up to join our band?

She gives me her infectious laughter.

- Do I ever! ! I can't wait to get to work on it!
- We propose you to see us all tonight to talk about it!
- Us? You already choose the bassist?
- Yep, her name is Camille. We will call while we are at it.
- OK ! I can wait to meet her! Where do we end up tonight?

I look at Ellie to see if she can meet us at the local where we had the tests. She nods.

- At the local rehearsal, at 8 pm?
- It's perfect ! See ya' girls!
- See ya' Carole!

We have a smile on our faces. We are still impatiente starting working with her. Ellie dials Camille's number.

- Yes ! Hello Camille! It's Ellie! I'm calling you about our bassist research ...

Her expression changes quickly after a few seconds.

- Oh ... Yes I understand ... It's just too bad ... You really had us very impressed ... Good luck in your research anyway ... Goodbye.

I'm burning with impatience to know what's wrong.

- She thought about it and she's afraid of not being able to be available if ever we are chosen. Because of an internship for her studies something like that ... And she wouldn't want to screw everything up of that ...
- Shit ... That's unfair ...
- Yeah ...

We then go back into the analysis of our notes about bassists. But we are both visibly disappointed and can't be agree on whom we choose. A phone call leaves us from our stormy debate. Ellie picks up.

- Yes ... Uh no actually the audition are over ... Uh well, wait, please hold ...

Ellie puts her hand on the microphone of her cell phone to talk to me.

- It's a young woman who would like to audition for the bass!
- Well, why not!
- Hello ? Yes ... Uh we hadn't planned to see someone else but we can say that your phone call is timely, because we reach stalemate according to the bassist...

Ellie then gives her the address of the local and asks her to come for 6 p.m.

- By the way, what's your name? ... Ok Avril, see you later!

I stretch out. Who knows, maybe we'll find the rare gem.
