Return of the Legion

Brink of War

Ava's POV
Just before I was going to try calling Ivy again, watching the chaos ensue on the TV screen, she comes through the door with five men flanking her. I recognize The Prophet immediately.

I take a step back, frightened by the sight of the five terrorists my sister was so set on saving, but relieved to see Ivy unhurt. I don't know what to think or feel right now. I don't understand why she would bring them here.

"Ivy," I breathe, staring at my sister.

"Ava, we have to go," She tells me, walking forward to grab my hand and drag me to her room.

She releases me, moving towards her closet and opening a secret compartment in the back. She pulls out two of mom's old rebel outfits, tossing one to me, and telling me to change. Reluctantly I do as told as she changes into the other.

Once dressed, she pulls out dad's old rebel clothes and drags me to the living room again. Each of them looks at us with wide-eyed expressions, as she tells them to go change into dad's clothes.

They all head for her bedroom, but not before The Prophet stops in front of us and whispers, "Thank you. Both of you. We wouldn't be here without your bravery."

"Don't thank us. Thank The Destroyer. Without him, I wouldn't have done this. I wouldn't have convinced my sister that we had to fight to save you guys," Ivy replies.

"Be that as it may, you still fought. Your parents would have been proud of you two today," he says, gently placing a hand on each of our shoulders, before walking back to the bedroom to change.

When he's out of earshot, I turn to Ivy and ask, "What are we going to do? Where are we going? Ivy, the chips are off. They've been destroyed. We're safe, so why are we running?"

She looks at me, taking my hands and leading me to the sofa. She sits us down and softly tells me, "The chips might be off, but that doesn't mean we're safe. Ava, there are still F.E.A.R. sympathizers out there and they'll be coming for us."

"How do you know that?" I demand, feeling my heartbeat quicken.

"Because we ran into some on the way here. They attacked the van," She whispers, biting her lip, "They'll come for us and where do you think they'll look first?"

"You mean..." I trail off, knowing she'll understand.

Her eyes dart to mine before she says, "Yes. I mean we're on the brink of another civil war and we won't be safe unless we leave. We've officially become terrorists. I'm sorry, but it's now or never, Ava."

"But President Harris-"

"She's a pawn in a much bigger game," Ivy interrupts, her voice cold, "Don't you remember what dad used to say about F.E.A.R.'s leadership?"

He used to say, "You can cut off the head as much as you like, but it's useless until you've cut out the heart. Just like a Hydra, a new head can and will grow back in it's place."

I look at my sister for a moment before whispering, "Yes. I remember."

"Then you know what we have to do," She whispers back and I nod, as The Legion members reappear.

"Hate to break this up, but are we ready?" One of them with brown eyes, sharp facial features and a cute gap between his teeth asks.

"I think so, Destroyer," Ivy replies with a soft smile, standing up and pulling me with her.

So he's The Destroyer...He's surprisingly handsome for being a terrorist. They're all pretty good looking, but he stands out for some reason. Maybe it's the adorable smile he wears or maybe I'm just losing what little sense I had left.

When I look at the rest of them, one of them is smiling at my sister, his eyes glued to her as if she were the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. I take notice that he also has brown eyes but lighter hair than the others. He wears dad's old red bandana around his neck as a necktie of sorts and his nails have been painted white...I wonder which one he could be.

The Mourner's POV
We quickly get dressed in Alex's old rebel clothing. It's surprising that the girls kept this stuff, since it represents why they were killed. I'll have to ask them about it later.

Once dressed, we head out to the living room, where the girls are sitting on the couch talking. Ivy wears a hard look of determination, while Ava has a fearful gleam in her eyes. She must have just realized what Ivy knew from the moment she decided to free us.

"Hate to break this up, but are we ready?" CC gently asks.

"I think so, Destroyer," Ivy replies, smiling at him and standing. She pulls her sister up with her and there's no doubt about it...

These are the twins from the Prophesy. They have to be. Just like Eve and her sister, Ari, were The Wretched and The Divine, these two girls have to be The Priestess and The Rebel.

I wonder if Alex didn't know that and that's why he kept their existence a secret. He was the kind of man who would do anything to protect those he cherished, and by the way Ivy spoke of him, he really did adore them. He warned them about the world we live in through the stories he would tell them.

We all head out, keeping a look out for F.E.A.R. sympathizer as we make our way to the van, parked outside. Ava seems to become even more jumpy, with every passing second, which concerns me. She's not ready for all this.

Once in the van, Andy leads Ivy out of the city, towards the desert town we've called home for the last 300 years...immortality...just one perk of being a fallen angel...

It takes ages to get there, and it's just getting dark as we arrive.

Out the window, I can see the Wild Ones lining up for a fight, and feel a sense of pride. We trained them well.

"Hold back and let us out," Andy tells Ivy, gently placing his hand on her shoulder as she slows the van to a stop about 10 yards from the wall of Wild Ones.

She unlocks the doors, letting us out, then Andy holds his hands up and calls out, "Drop your weapons!"

"Andy!" A woman screams, dropping her sword to the sand and bolting from the lineup. He smiles, holding his arms wide to her, as she slams into him, knocking them to the sand below. They laugh and he kisses her head as she sobs into his shirt about how she thought he was dead.

"Juliet, I'm fine. I'm here," he whispers to her.

Eve may have been his true love, but Juliet has been able to open his heart to the idea that he can love again. I couldn't be happier for them too.

Ashley and CC help Ivy and Ava from the van, then we all walk towards the rest of the waiting Wild Ones. We introduce everyone and get a lot of welcome backs, as we walk through the crowd.

"Want to see your new home?" Andy asks the girls, wrapping an arm around Juliet's shoulders.

"We'd love to," Ivy replies with a kind smile, but Ava doesn't seem so sure. I gently place a hand on her shoulder and use my ability to calm her nerves for her, then she smiles softly at me and nods to Andy.

He leads them to one of the grain silos turned shelter and motions them inside, following them in and then giving them the full tour of the town.
