Return of the Legion

Saved

Ivy's POV
We were so close, when guards swarmed us. As I reach for my stun baton, I'm struck in the back with one, by a Guard. I cry out in agony as electricity runs through me and I crumple to the floor.

"No!" The Deviant shouts, as two guards restrain him, then everything stops. As if someone had flicked a switch, the guards step back, removing their helmets and looking puzzled.

The Destroyer and The Deviant rush to my side, helping me sit up and holding my weakened body, as I struggle to catch my breath. I look up at them, then The Mystic leans down before me. He whispers, "This might hurt, but it's only for a moment."

Confusion sets in at his odd words, then pain lances through my body. A slow, agonizing burn radiating through my chest to my back. Despite the pain, I find I can't move. I can't scream. I can't make a single sound. I can't even breathe.

Another memory rips through my mind. Dad said The Mystic could do many things with his flames. Things that most people would find baffling. So, what is he doing to me?

The moment his hands leave my body, I slump forward, struggling to catch my breath at first, but then it settles and the pain from the baton is gone.

I swallow, looking up at him in awe. He healed me...but how? Why?

"You okay?" The Deviant asks, watching me carefully.

I look at him, nod and then feel my body being lifted. They gently set me on my feet but keep a loose hold on me. I tentatively check my body and find I'm okay, then remove my arms from around their shoulders and say, "We got to get to The Prophet. I think Ava's plan worked, but I can’t be sure."

"Ava's...?" The Destroyer asks, trailing off.

"Plan?" The Deviant demands, confusion in his tone.

"Ava, my twin sister. She was trying to shut down the chips in everyone's wrists. Wake them up," I explain, pushing open the door and holding it for them.

"Wait, you have a twin?" The Mourner asks, stopping beside me, as The Mystic exits and I shut the door.

"Yep," I answer, unlocking one of the small vans we use for transport, and tell them, "Get in, I'll explain on the way."

They follow my instructions and I take off.

The Prophet's POV
The guards push me down in a chair, before a sea of people who want to see me dead. I know they can't possibly mean it. Not deep within their hearts. It's F.E.A.R. doing this to them.

I knew way back in the early 2000s that this would happen if F.E.A.R. won. I'd thought we'd vanquished him in the wastelands, but I was wrong. F.E.A.R. isn't a single person. It can't be stopped. At least not at this rate.

I failed my only mission in life. I failed God. I failed my people...

Just as I'm about to accept my fate though, something happens. The chanting crowd grows silent. The guards move away from me, removing their helmets. Everyone looks lost and confused. What the hell just happened?

Then it hits me. Something or someone just woke everyone up.

I stand slowly, watching the guards who just look at me. They don't make a move to stop me, so I start to walk through the crowd. They separate, to create a path for me, as a van pulls up and the back door slides open.

Instead of seeing guards, I spot Ashley, Jinxx, Jake and CC smiling at me from the back and motioning me to join them. I smile back at them, then race for the open door. Once inside, they close the door and I see the guard who reminded me so much of my beautiful Eve.

"Are you okay, Prophet?" She asks, looking at me through the mirror.

"Yeah. But what happened back there?" I demand.

She glances back at me and I can hear her thoughts.

'My twin sister just saved everyone's ass. You guys are safe now and I'm taking you back to my place for the moment.'

I nod, then ask, "Who are you?"

"Don't tell me you don't recognize your own granddaughter," She replies with a laugh, that matches Eve's perfectly.

"My..." I trail off, unsure of what to say next.

"You remember a man by the name of Alexander Liam Black?" She asks.

"Of course," I reply, "He had a wife named Bethany."

She smiles and says, "They were my parents and if what the Destroyer and my dad said is true, that makes Eve and you my grandparents."

I'm floored. I had no clue Alex had any children, let alone twin girls...The Prophesy...It came true then. Twin sisters would be the catalyst to bring F.E.A.R. to its knees.

"What all did your father tell you?" I inquire, meeting her soft gaze in the mirror.

"Her used to tell us bedtime stories about five men who were known as The Legion of the Black. They lead a group called The Wild Ones, who hid out in a desert town, fighting against the powers of F.E.A.R. He told us our grandmother's name was Eve Black and that she died fighting for what she believed in. He also said you guys had special gifts from God. The Prophet could read minds and see the future. The Destroyer could shake the earth with a single blow. The Mystic could do things you could only dream of with his flames. The Mourner could manipulate a person's emotions and thoughts and usually did so to help heal The Wild Ones from their painful pasts. And finally The Deviant had this inhuman ability to fight and could just think of a place and know the layout. He told us The Deviant often times came up with really detailed and unorthodox plans of attack that would take the enemy off guard, giving you guys the advantage," She explains, and I'm amazed by how much she knows. Her father really did tell them a lot about us...

Ava's POV
I make my way back upstairs and turn the TV on, watching the news. The city was in chaos, as the people started waking up and I was worried about Ivy. I tried calling her, but she didn't pick up. Where could she be? Is she safe? Was she captured? Is she hurt?

A million questions race through my mind, as I pace the length of the living room, watching and listening to the news for any signs of her.

Just as I'm about to try calling her again, she walks in with five men flanking her, one I recognize to be The Prophet...
