Return of the Legion
Fight for All You Know
Ava's POV
"Anyone wish to oppose this binding, speak now or forever hold your peace," I overhear The Prophet state, taking a long look at each of the others.
"Me," I say, realizing no one else was going to speak up, "At least for the moment. Ivy, we need to talk."
I grab hold of my sister's hand, dragging her from the hall out to the cooled night. Once halfway to the Church of the Wild Ones, I stop and spin around to face her.
"What is a binding?" I demand, watching her carefully.
She shifts uncomfortably under my gaze, before quietly explaining, "It literally will bind my soul to Ash-er, The Deviant's soul. I'll become a full fledged fallen angel."
"Are you crazy?" I ask, stunned by her words, "Ivy, where'd this sudden fascination with fallen angels come from? You've never once mentioned them before, other than to blatantly say you don't believe in them, and now you do? Not only that, but you actually want to be one?"
"I know it sounds crazy, and honestly I didn't until I met one. Not only met one, but fell for him. Ava, I felt it the moment I saw him, in that prison cell, but I had no clue what it was at the time," She argues, her voice shaking, filled with emotion, "And you know I never felt like I belonged in F.E.A.R."
"That was because our parents-"
"No! It wasn't because of our parents being so-called terrorists!" She shouts, anger flaring in her eyes, "It was because I knew I was different from them! I knew I didn't belong there! I knew, deep down, all those stories dad told us and songs mom sang to us, were the real deal and that they would lead us to where we do belong! And here we are! We're home! What I don't get is why you can't accept that?"
"Who are you? My sister wouldn't do something like this. The Ivy I know wouldn't be so quick to jump," I demand just above a whisper.
Tears shine in her blue eyes, gleaming in the pale light of the full moon, her body quivering. As the first tear falls down her cheek she slowly whispers, "I am your sister and we are fallen angels. Whether you want to believe it or not is up to you, but I'm a believer and I can't be anything else. Not after what we've seen. Not after what we've done and especially not when I can do this."
Reaching out her hand a large chunk of metal -that resembles an old tractor tire iron - flies at her, stopping midair and morphing into a figure of a female fallen angel, wings and all. It gently lands in her hand and she passes it to me.
Blinking a few times, I take it and look down to see it's not just any female. It's actually her, wearing a tattered outfit similar to the one she wears now. Her wings fall to her knees, peeking out ofor the racer back shirt she wears. Her hair wrapped up in a beautiful fishtail braid and her soft face turned up, facing the heavens...But her eyes...that's what gets me. Her eyes are full of of enlightenment as she gazes upward.
My eyes flash up to meet hers and I realize, this is what she wants more than anything. She wants to be just like them.
Nodding slowly, I whisper, "Fine. Throw your life away for them, but don't come crying to me when you realize your mistake."
She seems shocked as I shake my head letting the metallic angel fall to the sand and walk away. I can't be around her anymore. She's no longer my sister. I don't know who she is anymore...
The Prophet's POV
We wait for an entirety for the girls to return, but they don't. Jake seems uneasy, so I quickly look into his thoughts.
He's uneasy because he can feel everything one of them is feeling. I pry a little deeper, attempting to fish out who's feeling that way, only to find it's Ivy.
Looking at Ashley, I can tell her feels it too, with the hard line his jaw is set in. CC seems concerned too, sensing Ava's anger and sadness through their bond. What just happened?
Standing, I head out to check on the girls, then guys following after me.
"What do you think happened?" Ash asks, walking beside me.
"Well they obviously didn't see eye to eye on something. If I had to take a guess, I'd say it had something to do with the binding," I reply, as we round the corner and find Ivy sitting on the steps that lead to the Church.
Upon closer inspection, I see she's curled up, crying into her knees with a metallic object in front of her. It's only when we get closer, that I realize the strange metallic object is an angel, sticking out of the sand.
Ashley sits beside her, making her jump in surprise, as he wraps his arms around her in a comforting manner. I pick up the heavy angel and examine it, but before I can see too much about her, she crumples in my hands, turning into a large bullet.
Looking between the bullet and Ivy, I quietly search her mind. She's replaying her sister's harsh words over and over in her head, and suddenly it all clicks together.
"She doesn't know what she's talking about," I whisper, kneeling before Ivy, "She hasn't realized what you already know, but she will in time."
"Get out of my head," She weakly growls at me, her eyes turning up at me, with a harsh glare, her cheeks stained in streaks of black.
"I'm sorry. That's easier said than done. I can't just stop reading people's minds," I reply softly, resting my hand on her knee.
"What do you mean?" She inquires, her eyes softening as she continues to watch me.
"It's like listening to a thousand radio stations at once and when I'm close enough to a person, I can hear their thoughts. Standing in front of you just now, while you were thinking about the fight you and Ava just had...well, I couldn't help but overhear," I explain, as she sighs and looks away.
"She hates me," She whispers, her eyes glazing over again.
"She doesn't hate you. She's just upset, because she doesn't understand, but I can promise, she will soon enough," I reply, smiling down at her, trying to confort her.
"Yeah? And how can you promise that?" She snaps, her glare returning.
"Because she's The Destroyer's true love and she'll come to realize that soon enough," Ashley whispers for me.
I watch her eyes widen in surprise, looking between Ashley and CC for a long moment, before looking down at her hands. The large bullet shakes in my hand again, before it lands in hers. She stares at it for a moment, before it shifts into five equal segments.
She holds up her hand, wrapping her fingers around one. Pulling away I see she's turned it into a miniature arrow. Repeating this with the next blobs of liquefied metal, she makes a cross, a bow, a set of initials that read A.B. and I.B. Finally a long chain is produced from the last blob and she merges them to create a bracelet.
She passes it to me and says, "Next time you see her, give that to her and tell her I'll always be her sister and I'll always be here for her. I'll always protect her...Even if she hates me."
I look down at the bracelet in my hand, admiring the detailed charms that encompass it, before I nod and carefully place it in my vest pocket. Just as I'm about to stand though, I get hit with a vision.
The town is burning, Wild Ones running in every direction, some being captured by Shadows. They scream, as a swarm of large bat-like creatures pick up Ava and Ivy, carrying them off, then I'm dropped back into reality.
"What? What is it?" Ashley asks, reaching out his hand to grip my shoulder, his eyes wide in concern and fear.
I shake my head, shocked by what I had seen, before I start barking out orders, "CC find Ava. Now. Jinxx, Jake, get the rest of the Wild Ones to the mountains. Ash, Ivy. You're coming with me."
I stand, taking off my vest and passing it to Jinxx, before I take off, Ashley grabbing hold of Ivy and following suit.
"Andy! What happened?!" Ashley demands, flying up to me with Ivy clinging to him.
Looking over at him I explain what I saw, and Ivy gasps in fear.
'What? This has to be a counter attack!' Her mind screams.
"That's exactly what it is," I answer, spinning around, looking out for anything that could resemble what I saw. In no time, they show themselves, and I do the only thing I can think to do.
I grab Ivy from Ash, flying right for them, and toss her in the air. I dive, keeping an eye on her, as she screams, getting their attention.
"No!" Ashley roars, flying towards her, as she falls. I swoop in before he can, grabbing hold of her and directing them away from the camp.
"What the hell?!" Ivy shrieks, looking up at me in horror.
"They're after you and Ava! You said you'd protect her, right?" I demand, looking down at her. She nods, her features hardening with silent determination, "Then keep your promise and buy her some time!"
"Alright!" She calls back.
"Ash!" I shout, waiting for him to get in position, realizing what I'm trying to do. Once he's ready, I throw Ivy through the air, where he neatly catches her, flying off in the opposite direction.
Ivy's POV
"You okay?" Ashley demands, pulling me closer to him.
"Yeah. Just keep it up!" I reply, "We have to buy them time!"
"What the hell do they want?" He asks, as he soars around the Churches steeple to head back towards The Prophet.
"Ava and me!" I call out over the wind, trying not to look down.
"Why?" He demands, shifting his hold, ready to throw me to The Prophet again.
"No clue! I'll ask!" I shout, as he throws me through the air. I land with a thud against The Prophet's chest, looking over his shoulder as a large swarm of human-sized bats change position to follow.
"You good?" He asks, taking off, again, in the opposite direction.
"I'm fine! Why are they after us?" I demand, watching the bat things carefully.
"I wish I knew!" He calls back, "My visions are sometimes limited to the information they give me. If I had to guess, I'd say F.E.A.R.'s finally woke up and realized we know who you and Ava are! He'll stop at nothing to destroy you two before you can destroy him and he doesn't care who he has to go through to do it!"
"Wait! Doesn't that put everyone else in danger?" I demand, as he rounds the old oil drill, heading for Ashley again.
"Yes, but it's a small price to pay when we finally have the keys to ending him once and for all. I lied when I told everyone he was gone all those years ago. I knew he would rise again, and when you said you were attacked by Shadows, I knew that time had finally come!" The Prophet explains, before throwing me back to Ashley.
"What did he say?" Ashley demands, as I see the Church go up in flames.
"He's reawakened! He knows who Ava and I are and he'll stop at nothing to destroy us!" I explain, looking up at him with wide eyes, then back to the swarm that chases us.
"Who? You mean William Control?" He shouts, fear and confusion taking over his features.
"Ashley! Fly faster! They're gaining!" I shriek, clinging tight to him as he glances back.
"Fuck! Andy!" He roars as he dips down and flies under the swarm, just above the fires. The Prophet comes back into view and suddenly, without warning, I'm airborne again.
The Prophet barely has time to catch me, but he manages to grab hold of my wrist before I can fall into the threatening flames and flies out from under the swarm. Once secure in his arms, I look down to see flames have engulfed most of the town and Shadows run around, looking for Wild Ones.
"Ashley asked if you meant William Control," I shakily shout, looking up at The Prophet.
His blue eyes meet my own with a grave look as he says, "Yes. That's exactly who I'm talking about."
"Who is he?" I inquire.
"He's the founder of the Church of F.E.A.R. which is the building you found in the desert," he growls, his frown deepening, "He's the reason we exist."
"Did I awaken him?" I ask, a feeling of guilt forming in my gut.
He looks back at me, his only answer a nod, before returning me to Ashley and calling out, "Everyone's safe! Now let's find some shelter of our own!"
Ashley nods before we dive into the burning towns streets and once on the ground, he tosses me over his shoulder, running towards the burning Church. The Prophet knocks down the door, by slamming his body into it, then they run down a stone, spiral staircase, into an underground tunnel.
Ashley pauses to set me on my feet again, then takes hold of my hand and we race down the long tunnel.
"Where are we going?" I demand, as we continue running.
"This tunnel leads to and secret base in the mountains that separate us from the city of F.E.A.R." The Prophet calls back to me, "That's where we'll find the others!"
"It'll be okay," Ashley adds, looking back at me and gently squeezing my hand. I nod as we start slowing down.
