My Perfect Weapon
Chapter 1: A Token of my Affection
Skylar awoke to the sound of the alarm with a groan. She had been having the most wonderful dream. All she wanted to do was go back to sleep, but she had to go to school. Yes, she was still in high school at 19. She had been held back a couple of years because she kept skipping trying to avoid the torture of her classmates. The good news was this was her last year. Just six more months and she would finally be free.
She climbed out of bed and stretched before heading to the bathroom to get ready. After she showered and dressed, she came back to her room to grab her backpack. It was then she realized her journal was missing. She remembered she had been writing in it before she fell asleep. She searched all around her bed but couldn't find it anywhere. She figured Lacy, her best friend and roommate, must have moved it and put it somewhere. She had done it before. She would ask her about when she got home later, for now she had to leave for another day in hell.
When she pulled into the parking lot of the school, she saw Amber and her two best friends sitting on the front steps. Great. She had been hoping to avoid the terrible trio. Amber was head cheerleader and thought the earth revolved around her, not the sun. She and her two shadows made Skylar's life here hell.
She climbed out of the car and grabbed her bag from the backseat. Looking down at the ground, she headed toward the building trying to be invisible. Lucky for her, Amber was too busy flirting with the captain of the football team to notice Skylar as she passed.
She breathed a sigh of relief as she made her way to her locker. She dialed her combination and opened her locker. What she saw made her freeze for a second and then look around in confusion. Sitting there in her locker, was a blue rose. Her favorite flower. She picked it up and finally noticed the note underneath it. She picked the note up and read it : Just a token of my affection. She actually had the ghost of a smile on her face as she brought the rose to her nose and sniffed. Maybe this day wouldn't be so bad after all.
