My Perfect Weapon
Chapter 17: A Big Mess
Carnage. That's how Detective Jenkins would describe the scene in front of him. The bodies of the young men were stacked on top of each other in the middle of nowhere. They wouldn't even had known about them if a hiker hadn't wandered off trail and gotten lost.None of them had died in the same fashion. One had been disembowled. Another's heart had been removed from his body. This was only the dump site. There wasn't enough blood for them to have been killed here.
"Sir, you had better take a look at this." one of the crime scene invetigators called to him.
Detective Jenkins walked over and looked down at what appeared to be a journal laying on the ground a few feet from the stack of bodies. After putting on a pair of gloves, he reached down and picked it up. He flipped through some of the pages, reading a few entries.
The journal belonged to Skylar West. It appeared to be nothing more than stories and sketches of a young man. Skylar's name had come up in a couple of other investigations lately. Amber Laden and Trevor Moore had both had confrontations with her on the days they had been murdered. And now her it appeared she had a connection to these murders as well.
Detective Jenkins thought back to the yearbook photo he's seen of her. She was small. Maybe 5'3" weighing maybe about 115 lbs. He didn't see how a girl that small could possibly have anything to do with this or the other murders, but if she didn't how had her journal gotten here?
He spent the afternoon talking to her teachers. They all said the same thing. She was shy and quiet. Didn't really speak to anyone. She was bullied. Kept to herself. Had good grades. It didn't sound as if she were a homicidal maniac. Of course, people had been fooled before.
When he got back to his desk that evening, he decided to take a closer look at the journal. Apparently Skylar West had a rich imagnation. Most of the journal was a fantasy world dedicated to a imaginary boyfriend named Andy. There were stories about him and sketches of him.
Toward the end of the journal the handwriting changed. It was different from Skylar's. The tone changed as well. It was darker, more like confessions than the stories Skylar had written previously.
As he read the last few pages, a chill crept up his spine. Something definitly wasn't right about this. Either someone else had taken Skylar's journal or she had a split personality. It was time to pay a visit to Ms. West and get some answers.
