A Savior Will Be There

Chapter 1

I can't do this. Korey thought to herself. Korey had recently transferred to this high school after only two weeks at the one she'd previously attended. She hated school because she had always been bullied since seventh grade. Two years ago, Korey's mother, Natalie had died in a horrific crash. She never knew her father because he died before Korey was born. Now she liver with her alcoholic uncle - Jason. After the death of her mother, Korey wore a bit more black than she used to. That was one of the reasons why people often made fun of her. They called her things like "Emo Fag" and stupid things like that.

Must I go through with this? Korey was thinking as she walked through the school's doors. She hated being here already. Knowing that she'd be bullied here too and what to expect on the first day. Korey just didn't want to go through the bullying, name calling, notes in lockers or in class, she was so tired of being alone. As soon as Korey opened the doors, all eyes were on her already. As if she were some freak that would bring disease to the school. So it begins... Korey had a paper in her hand that told her which classrooms she needed to be at whatever time. First was homeroom which is in class #281. She was walking around for the room and eventually found it. When she walked in, she saw that most of the students were from her eighth grade year. And they were the ones who bullied her. "This should be fun." Korey muttered and no one heard her. As she walked by the kids, she heard them whisper smart-alick remarks about her. Then, a nightmare came true. "Hey Brandon, it's the 'Emo Queen' from middle school." A jock said. Korey remembered him too well. His name was Tristen. He and Brandon were to of the three that made Korey's middle school years absolute torture. The third was a girl named Jennifer. If one puts these three musketeers together, they could make Hell look like paradise, and Heaven..well..Heaven. "Why speak of the devil. Jennie, look who it is." Brandon said as he motioned for a girl with blonde curls to come over. "Well well. If it isn't our little attention whore. Oh, I must be dreaming." Jennifer said dramatically. Crap... Korey thought. She walked passed them and sat in a random desk and took a blue notebook from her backpack and started doodling. This notebook was used for practically everything. She drew in it, took notes in it, used it for homework, etc. Right now, Korey was drawing random music notes on the page. Then, a feeling came over her. As if someone was looking at her. Korey skimmed around the room, but didn't really see anyone. But she wasn't really freaked out like there was a stalker. It was just one of those casual things. So Korey went back to her little page writing down instruments. Korey's straight, dark brown, hair covered the side of her face like a curtain. It was a bit cold in the classroom, so Korey was glad she was wearing her black ACDC sweatshirt. Then the bell finally rang to go to the next class. The first day of school was going just as Korey had expected. Right as Korey stood up, that feeling came back to her. She looked around the room more carefully this time. Her deep blue eyes were scanning the room and finally rested on a boy her age with jet black hair, and eyes that were a little lighter shade of blue. When the boy saw she was looking at him, he swiftly looked away. Weird... Korey thought. There was something about that kid that seemed familiar; as if she has seen him before. Korey just let those thoughts run down her shoulders and headed to English class. She was walking a little slower and when Korey opened the door to the classroom she saw the three musketeers were in her class, and so was Mr. Familiar. The teacher looked at Korey and smiled genuinely at her. "Class, it looks like we have a new student today." She said as everyone looked at Korey. "Will you please come and introduce yourself young lady?" The teacher asked. Korey bit her lip and nodded. The teacher motioned for her to come over to the front of the class. Korey felt sweat forming in her palms. She was really nervous. She wasn't really one for talking in front of groups of people. "Um, hi. M-my name's Korey. I like to listen to music, and...Um... I like guitars. That's about it." Korey said as she lowered her head. Then she felt a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Well it's wonderful to meet you, Korey. My name is Miss Hill, and I'm glad you're in my class." Miss Hill said with a smile. "You may sit down now Korey." She said. Korey nodded and headed to the desk that was near the back of the room next to a window. That could've been worse. Korey thought to herself. She opened up her red backpack and grabbed a black ink pen and set it on her desk, then she pulled on her sleeves until they came to her knuckles. "Class, since this is Korey's first day, there will be no homework tonight. But I do want you to read a book or write a short poem. In other words, do something productive or there will be homework." Miss Hill said sternly, yet calm at the same time. I think I'm gonna like Miss Hill. Korey thought to herself. She got out her notebook and continued on the page she was working on previously. But then Korey's mind wondered off as she looked out the window. Whenever she looked out of a window, Korey always got lost in thought and escaped reality. She often thought of her mother and tried to remember the good times they had. She remembered when her mother gave Korey her purity ring on her thirteenth birthday. Now she treasures that ring as if it meant the world to her. When Natalie, her mother, died, Korey's world came tumbling down. She cried herself to sleep every night and fell into a deep depression. About a year later, the depression was at the highest and she started cutting because she blamed herself for Natalie's death. But Korey recently quit cutting about two or three months ago. Korey remembered the day of the crash all too well. Korey and her mother were celebrating Natalie's birthday. It was a Saturday afternoon and Natalie was turning 34 and Korey suggested to go to the movies together and they did. Then on the way back, a drunk driver had hit their car. Korey was the only survivor. She could remember an explosion and screams of horror. Korey looked down at her hand. She was still wearing her mother's purity ring. If only I hadn't suggested the movies. She'd still be alive. She thought to herself.

Suddenly Korey was torn from her thoughts because she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around and looked at a redhead girl holding a note. Korey took it from the girl and opened it up. She could tell by the handwriting that Jennifer wrote note and it read this... 'Why are you here Fag? You are so ugly and no one loves or cares for you. You have no one!!! Do the universe a favor and die already!!!' Korey knew this would happen. Jennifer did this all of the time to her and it was no surprise. She angrily crumpled the paper and shoved it in her backpack. Korey slowly pulled up her left sleeve and looked at her past scars. There have been numerous times when Korey thought of suicide. She felt a tear run down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away. Korey didn't like to show that the bullying got to her. She pulled the sleeve back down to her knuckles. Korey looked back down at her paper and started writing song titles and bands that helped her forget her sadness. Songs like 'Walk' by Pantera or 'Master of Puppets' by Metallica. There was another song and band that she heard of on the last week at her old school. The song was 'Knives and Pens' by a new band Black Veil Brides. She overheard two boys talking about them and how they didn't like the band because they were emo and lame. Korey seemed interested in the band so that night she downloaded Knives and Pens on her mp3 and listened to it. When she heard the singer screaming, it kind of startled her at first, but it ended up being her favorite part. Not that she was new to screamo or anything, it was just the first second it startled her. One night she saw the music video and thought they were all cool. She also found out that it was currently their only song. Once again, Korey was dragged from her thoughts but this time it was because the bell rang for class period 3. She packed up her stuff and put her backpack on her shoulders and the note fell out. Korey picked it up and threw it away and exited the classroom.
