Andrew & Emily

Two

Emily emerged from her room 2 hours later, late of course! Because when was Emily Day ever on time? There's a reason her nickname used to be Emily Daydream. She's in a world of her own entirely. She had chosen a black floaty dress with off the shoulder sleeves, some chunky black sandals, a floppy summer hat over her naturally wavy hair, and sunglasses. Very boho indeed. But Summer was finally here and Emily was lapping it up in every way possible.
She arrived at the quiet little coffee shop 14 minutes late. It would have been later if Devon hadn't kindly offered to drive her in his silver Mini. His pride and joy.

"Thanks Devon, i'm so late! I'll see you later alright?"

"What are big brother's for? Be safe please Emily! Text me if you need a ride home. Have fun"
They kissed each other once on the cheek and parted, both waving as the door of the Mini closed shut. Emily told her older brother everything, but she couldn't tell him about this. Not after what happened with Luke! From that day on, she swore to herself never to mention boys to the only boy she wholeheartedly trusted more than anyone on this Earth.

So much blood.

The guilt of lying to her brother gave her a really odd feeling in her gut. Either that or she really was craving this sandwich Andrew loved so much. Coming to think of it she hadn't eaten anything all day unless you'd count an apple.. Which Emily doesn't.

With nervous eyes pinned to the glass door of the quiet coffee shop so as to not smash into it like a fool (again) Emily strutted as confidently as she could to the door. Andrew was sitting at a table in the far right corner. Thankfully, he didn't look angry, good start.

"There you are" Andrew said with a small laugh in his voice. "I thought you'd stood me up."

"No, no i'm really sorry. I had a hair issue" Emily lied. Well, partially. Yes, she did have a hair issue. A woken-up-late-and-no-time-to-wash-her-hair issue to be exact.. hence the hat, but truthfully she still could have made it on time. She was just dawdling.

"Well you look beautiful. You hungry? Or did you want to eat later?"

Emily blushed a rosy red. No one had ever called her beautiful before. Hot, yes. Sexy, yes.. But beautiful was something she could absolutely get used to.

Beautiful? Oh no, now i'm blushing. I need a fan i need a fan!! Why does this guy keep making me melt into a soggy, blushing puddle?

"Thank you, you don't look so bad yourself. Later? Why what's happening? Urm, i could eat now, i haven't had anything all day."

"I need you to show me around remember? Okay we'll have some lunch now and maybe go for a walk? or drive? Whatever you suggest, it's you that knows your way around."

"Okay sounds good actually, i love being out in the sunshine!"

Andrew smiled at Emily and proceeded to order 2 sandwiches at the counter just 6 feet away.
The pair of them continue to talk to each other while waiting for their order. Andrew realizes it might take a while being that the coffee shop was busier than usual. Perhaps the Summer break is the reason for the sudden surge? So he takes his seat opposite Emily, continuing to chat away about what they've been doing with their day so far. Ice-breaking conversation really, so as to not act awkwardly around one another.

Not many moments later, the sandwiches arrive. Andrew nodded his head to Matt, the coffee shop employee, as a 'thank you'. Emily looked at the cardboard triangle her sandwich was packaged in searching for the ingredients.

"Chicken and cheese?" - She found it.

"..And tomato" Andrew followed. "Honestly, you won't regret it, it sounds horrible, but i promise you you'll be begging for more!. wink."

Emily blushes again. Far too many sexual thoughts flying through her mind.

His attempt to make things better somewhat fail.. "No, i mean like because it's so good!" "THE SANDWICH! Because the sandwich is so good, you'll want more". He knows he's losing the battle and laughs through his teeth, shaking his head.

His smile.

Emily takes a big bite from the corner, "You're right, it's strangely okay. I mean it's not the best thing. It could do with some lettuce or cucumber or something, but it's not bad."

"Alright then, what would have been your sandwich of choice, fussy pants?"

Without a second of hesitation she replies "Tuna, mayo, as much lettuce as possible and cucumber... In wholemeal bread."

Andrew raised his eyebrows slightly and nodded. "You'll have to make it for me sometime?"

"well of course!....Are you asking me out, again Andrew?" Emily replied slowly and teasingly.
The way she says his name makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand to attention.

"I could be, Emily." He says as cool as a, well, cucumber. (No pun intended, although fully welcomed). Andrew didn't even smile in his reply, he just looked straight into Emily's eyes.

There's something about this boy.

Finishing up their sandwiches the pair plan their day. Andrew wanted to go to a beach and Emily wasn't going to argue with that idea. The beach was Emily's favorite place. A place full of memories, sand was like home. Her first steps, First broken bone, First game of football, first swimming lesson, first kisses, first love, first sexual experience, first heartache.. The beaches hold it all.

At first Emily was slightly apprehensive about getting into Andrew's car, i mean she'd only known him for 5 minutes but they couldn't possibly walk. Thinking like a true detective, she texts Devon to let him know she's on her way to Blue Beach, because if anything was to happen, like, i don't know, Andrew murdering her?.. Then Devon would be well aware that when Emily hasn't arrived home she's bound to be somewhere between Jack's Coffee Shop and Blue Beach. Devon already had his phone in his hand while Emily text, so he managed to reply in record time "Be safe x". Typical Devon, always caring about his little sister with every bone in his body.

"Are you gonna' kill me?" Emily blurted out as she reached for the handle on Andrew's slick grey, car parked just outside and to the right of the coffee shop. She noticed there were tiny scratches, barely visible to the eye along the back right hand side of the vehicle

"Excuse me?" Andrew laughed in shock and offence, squinting his eyes at Emily as if she was totally insane.

"I'm just saying... If you're planning on killing me, i'd like to pick a cuter outfit for my ghost to wear please."

"Haha, how do i know you're not the one that's gonna' kill me?! It's not every day i let strange, beautiful girls in my car."

He said it again, beautiful.

"Not every day huh? Just like every other day then?" Emily teased again, getting more comfortable.

"Emily, shut up and get in the car", Andrew replied still laughing.

The car smelled pleasantly like blueberries and it was spotless from the inside out, not a hint of food wrappers or even dust for that matter. Maybe he was a killer? Or maybe he just knew how to look after things. Emily did notice a box in one of the back seats, neatly piled inside were pieces of paper. She couldn't see what was written on them, she thought maybe they could have been important documents? Blank sheets of paper? Maybe even something left in the car after Andrew's recent move? Never mind. The sun was shining, Andrew was smiling and singing along to a song on the radio in between asking for directions and in this very minuscule moment, Emily day couldn't be happier.

What a stunning day. I hope it stays this way. I'll have to think of an excuse to leave just in case.... Devon will pick me up so that's sorted. OOOH maybe i could say dad's in hospital? He'd never find out. Okay that's settled. That's my Get Out Of Jail Free card!

The beach was surprisingly empty for a beautiful hot late afternoon in July. 3 dog walkers, one couple making out on a very sandy beach towel, little do they realize they're mostly on the sand and the towel is doing nothing for them at this point, sandy bums and a wet ocean-soaked swimwear is not a good combination. Did someone say rash?...and 2 teenagers swimming in the crystal, sun-reflecting ocean.

"So here it is, Blue Beach. One of my favorite places on Earth." Emily beamed, leading Andrew down the progressively sandy steps.

"You come here a lot then?"

"Pretty much! In a way it's kinda' like a...home. I struggled with moving from the South of England all the way out here to America. The only thing i could find comforting was the beach."

Andrew took his jacket off and layed it on the warm sand like a gentleman for Emily to sit on. Hours past by without either of them noticing the beach was now totally empty. The last few seconds of sunlight were still visible on the horizon. Beautiful shades of reds and yellows danced across the sky and water, beaming so bright, as if the sun would never shine again and this was its final farewell. The pair watched the sun disappear and still continued to chat long after the night turned black, about everything and anything. They both found each others company so easy, having so much in common. It was almost like they were 2 halves of a whole, but not even in a romantic way, just in a way that they.. fit.

"I'm so thirsty. We've been sat here for hours look how dark it's gotten Andrew! My brother will go crazy if i stay out too late!"

SHIT, Devon! I haven't even text him to tell him i'm okay.

"What are you thirsty for? I might have something you can taste."

Urm. That was a bit forward.

"I'll pass thanks."

"Wait, your brother? What is he your keeper? Andrew says a little too sarcastic.

"No, dick head, he's my brother. We look out for each other is that some kind of problem?"
Emily bites back, guard up, ready to attack. She may only be 5ft 3 and a half (and the half always counts) but she has a sharp tongue. She's taken enough shit in her life, she's not about to be verbally ripped to shreds by a fucking stranger she met 2 days ago. No matter how damn hot the stranger is!

"Jesus, calm the fuck down i was making a joke! Are all you Brit's the same?"

"The fuuuck did you just say? Keep your interfering jokes to yourself in future, honey! I thought you were pretty decent, ha, but you're just the same as everyone else. Have a nice night Andrew." And with that, Emily picked her bag up and left the beach, walking back up the sandy steps and into the car park.

Self-riotous prick. Who the fuck does he think he is? I knew he was too good to be true! They always are!!!!
FOR FUUUCK SAKE! Now i need a ride home! This isn't my night. And I've got sand up my dress and in my shoes! Ugh, he definitely wasn't worth that.
Where's my phone?...
Wait.
I've left it next to his jacket.
FUUUUUUUUUCK SAKE!!!!
