Damage Control

Three

“Everything seems to be fine, Mrs. Biersack.

The doctor spoke as he took a seat next to the hospital bed. “It may have been a Braxton Hicks contraction brought on by a moment of stress or other factors that were bothering at the moment.” I let out a sigh of relief having hearing that everything was going to be okay. I was fine and most importantly, the baby was fine. “So everything’s okay?” Andy asked for reassurance. “She’s not in early labor or anything?” The doctor simply nodded his head and went on to tell us that all was well. “You will need to take it easy though-” He started. “Since you said that you were arguing with someone when the pain started, you will need to be in a stress free environment.” My gaze slowly turned to Andy. “If this were to happen again, you might go into premature labor.” I nodded my head to show that I understood what he was saying. I wasn’t stupid, I knew I needed to remain stress-free. I even took up yoga and did deep breathing exercises every morning. There was no way I was going to have this baby before her time!

“Okay, well thank you.” Andy shook the man’s hand before he walked out of the room. I slowly began to remove myself from the bed so I could start putting my street clothes back on. The nurse had already removed all the devices to make sure the baby was okay and I was free to go whenever I pleased. “I told CC to go get the car.” Andy spoke. He walked over and began to help me get dressed. Like the night before, I didn’t really talk to him. I was pissed over the fact that Larrissa and Ashley were both living in our house at this point. I know that Andy likes to be protective of his friends, but Ashley is a big boy. He could take care of himself and Larissa just fine. “Are you gonna talk to me or did you go mute?” He chuckled. I didn’t bother to smile at his stupid joke, instead choosing to roll my eyes. He lets out a sigh. “Ash and Larissa won’t be safe if they stay downtown.” He explained. “People are in and out of that place, Soph.”

“That’s not my problem.” I muttered. I knew I was being a bitch but I had every right to be one. I was a little over 6 months pregnant and it seemed my life had changed for the worst in the past 24 hours. My husband was a character right out of the Godfather trilogy, I had a pornstar living across the hall from me, and I was one freak out away from giving birth. What could possibly happen next? “I’m not gonna argue with you about this but you’re just gonna have to live it.” He spit out. I watched as he ripped his jacket off the chair and walked out the door. I could feel tears start to pool in my eyes but I knew I needed to calm down. I took a few breaths before I finished with my clothes. I gathered my bag and made sure all my paperwork was in there and followed Andy’s lead. I thanked the nurse that had taken care of me and made my way towards the exit. I saw CC first as he waved me over, quickly making his way toward me.

“Here, let me take your stuff.” He reached for my bag and took my hand in his. I allowed him to lead me toward the car. I could see Andy sitting there, checking something on his phone. “Do you want to sit upfront with me?” I looked over to him. Did I want to sit in the back with Andy and indulge in 30 minutes worth of awkward silence or did I want to sit in front with CC and endure 30 minutes worth of meaningless conversation?

“Mmhm.” I nodded my head. I could see a small smile form on his face as he quickly opened the passenger door. I didn’t hesitate as I climbed inside. “Why the hell are up there?” Andy’s deep voice sounded as he threw his phone on the seat. I didn’t say anything as I adjusted myself in the seat. I placed my seatbelt over my bump and clasped my hands in my lap. Andy let out a slew of whispered curse words as CC entered the vehicle and started driving. “Did the doctor say everything was okay?” He asked, beginning the conversation. All I could do was nod and tell him what the doctor had told Andy and I. “He said I need to stay away from stress or else I could give birth early.”

“Are you on bedrest or anything; when do you go back to the doctor?” Andy let out an annoyed sigh as CC’s questions started to become more frequent. CC had a right to know what was going on. Andy’s the one who assigned him to watch me before I knew why I needed to be watched. Christian was like a big brother to me. He was like my own tall, dark haired teddy bear. Granted, he drove me crazy most of the time but it was nice to have someone there when Andy was busy. “The doctor didn’t say anything about bedrest, just to take things easy from now on.” He nodded his head. “He told me to call my OB on monday and schedule an appointment for this week. Just to follow up and make sure she’s okay.”
“I can take you if you want.” He offered. “Just let me know what time and everything.” I gave him a smile but Andy rudely cut me off before I could answer him.

“I don’t think another man should be taking my wife to the OBGYN; i’ll be the one that’s taking her.” His arrogance was starting to really piss me off. Andy’s arrogance was one thing I hated about him the most. Most wives hate how their husband’s snore or the way they leave their clothes lying all over the house, but I hated my husband’s attitude at times. There were times where he thought that he was superior than others, take what just happened. He owned his own business and had CC and Ashley working underneath him but he knew he was the top boss. The boys did whatever Andy told them but there were times when he would take it to extremes.

The rest of the ride was silent aside from CC singing along to the radio. I could feel Andy’s heated glare on the back of my neck as I continued to ignore him. Once we arrived home, I got out of the car and made my way into the house. It was like deja vu, seeing as I did the same thing last night. I made way up the stairs and into our bedroom, collapsing on the bed below. I tried my best to kick my shoes off but my feet were too swollen at this point.

“Dammit.” I muttered as I tried one more time. After that attempt didn’t work, I decided to give up. I went to place my foot back on the floor but a hand caught it instead. I looked up the best I could and saw Andy standing at the foot of the bed. “Need some help?” He smiled. I looked at him for a moment before giving in. “Your daughter is making me feel helpless.” I laughed as I laid back. Andy let out a laugh as he pulled my shoe off my foot. “I’m sorry about everything, babe. I really should have told you about Ashley and Larissa.” He placed a kiss on my foot, causing me to giggle a bit. “I’ve been a major ass to you today and I had no right to be.” He proceeded to take off my other shoe and place a kiss on that foot as well. I don’t know how he could do that, my feet didn’t smell that fresh. “I never meant to treat you that way, especially at the hospital and in the car.”

I continued to look up at him and gave him a small smile. “It’s okay.” I spoke. “Everything’s just a little crazy right now and I didn’t make the situation any better.” I basically apologized. “I shouldn’t have blown up at Larrisa like that either. It just seemed like everything was starting to boil over a little too much.” I, myself, was partially to blame for the hospital visit. My Scots-Irish temper started to get the best of me and I took it out of poor Larissa. “Maybe I should go apologize.” I struggled to get up but Andy soon stopped me. “She’s out with Ashley-” A smirk appeared on his face. “Plus, I think we need to make up or something.”
I rolled my eyes as he slowly crawled on top of me. He held himself up as his lips came in contact with mine. When I first found out I was pregnant, I told Andy that sex was out of the question. I heard horror stories of people going into labor in the middle of sex or something totally off the wall happening. It wasn’t until he asked the doctor if it was okay that I finally gave in. Our sex life was great but being pregnant made it even better! I had to read up on the subject just to make sure I wasn’t imaging it being better.

“How about a nice shower first?”
