Summer Wine

Prologue

As I drove into my grandmother’s driveway a rush of memories came back. I thought back to my childhood. I came here every summer with my parents until I was about 16. Then we couldn’t come as much. You know how it is. Things get hectic with high school and then college. My parents were busy with their jobs as well. I parked my cute baby blue Hyundai Elantra in the driveway and looked over to the neighbor’s house sitting back behind my grandmother’s house in a large field. I saw some unfamiliar cars, but since I hadn’t been there I didn’t think too much about it. I recalled all the fun times I had in that pasture.

When I was 9, I remember just barely making it in the driveway before I shot out of the car to go play with my best summer friend, Ashley Purdy. We ran into the field and played Cowboys and Indians all day long.

I smiled at the memory. Those were good times.

I got out of my car and headed inside to greet my parents, who had flown in the night before, and my grandparents. I was immediately ambushed by my grandmother.

“Oh Jolene,” she said as she hugged me gently, “you get prettier and prettier every time I see you.” I hugged her little frame back. My mother, Opal, was the next person to get a hug.

“How have you been? We haven’t seen much of you since you moved out to Raleigh. How was your drive?” She asked, hugging me too.

“Oh,” I sighed, “it was a 15 hour drive and I worked the day before. But I’m doing good. I’m actually considering moving to get my Master’s degree. I just want a change of scenery”

My father, Collin, laughed. “I don’t think you ever outgrew your wild side, Jolene. Why not California? Now THAT is a change of scenery.”

“And you know who lives in LA don’t you?” my mother asked.

“I know, I know. Ashley Purdy. We haven’t seen each other since we were 16. What makes you think he is going to even recognize me?”

“You two were childhood friends. There is a bond between you two that will never be broken. You never know,” my grandmother smirked, “I always thought you two would get married.”

I shook my head, smiling at her comment, “Even if I did move to LA, that is assuming we see each other. LA is a big place. His band may be touring or…”

“Or he may be standing outside the window.”

Notes

So this one is kind of short. I haven't actually written about Black Veil Brides but I consider myself somewhat of a writer so hopefully this turns out good. :D

NOTE: I changed the POV for this story. I felt that it would read better if it was in first person rather than third! The story itself isn't much different though. I just threw in a couple details. I thought I would change it while I am ahead!
