Life's Awakening

The shrieking man

Andy's POV

There was only a bit of light in the one room shack, filtering down from a crack in the ceiling. I stood there for a moment and let my eyes adjust to the darkness. I could vaguely make out a desk near me. I slowly walked to it and began to riffle threw the drawers until I found what I was looking for. There was a candle and a small box of matches. I scrapped the match against the box and lit the candle then set it on the desk. It's light dimly covered the room, enough for me to look around. There was a little mattress on the floor in the corner, the desk, and chair I was now sitting in. That was it. I sighed.

I had to figure this out. All that I knew was that I was dead, and in Hell. There was at least one other person here named Zepher and Hell wasn't what I had though it to be. Hadn't CC been here before though? This isn't what he described. It was all fire and brimstone, this was enchanted. I tried to start at the beginning again. I was dead. How were my friends taking to news, how was my family taking the news. Surely everything was over now that I was gone. That Matthew fucker could on with his death and my friends can go back to L. A. and get on with their lives. I wondered how Juliet was feeling. She would be saddened obviously but, I hope she could move on. She deserved it after all that I had put her threw.

Then there was the fact I was in Hell. I had always assumed I'd end up here if it existed. I would have never imagined it to be like this. The sky was beautiful as it shown down with light. The woods were magnificent with their wildlife and despite the fact that this little tiny shit whole dwelled within it, I was now a part of it here. This had to be my new home now. Zepher. It was a hell of a name. It sounded old. I wondered how long he had been here. He seemed to know a lot about this place.

I looked around the room and tried to get acquainted with the fact that I was going to be here for a while. I looked at the small ceiling that was above me and to the crack that lay within it. I stood up and moved the chair under it and stood up on it reaching for the small hole. I pulled at the fibers of decaying wood until the hole was large enough. Sky lighting in hell. I then moved the small mattress underneath and laid down looking up at the stars. I could see a black figure beginning to emerge in the sky and slowly as it got bigger I realized that it was another person descending down into Hell. I watched as long as I could until they were out of my view. I wondered if I would ever meet this person. Then something happened right as I was about to fall asleep I heard the noise of a man screaming. Not out of pain, but it seemed to be out of terror. The noise made me jolt out of bed immediately. I tried to open the door again but it was locked. I tried to kick the door down but to no avail. I needed to try to help this person. Just because we were in Hell didn't mean he had to suffer right? I though about how shitty it was that I picked the sturdiest of the huts now. The man let out one more shriek of grief and fear before I heard the sound of something growl. It sounded like a some kind of beast.

Fear ripped threw me then and I stopped trying to get out of my shack. Instead I reseeded into it. Panic ran threw me as I looked around for something to try to barricade my self in. I moved the desk in front of the door and the chair as well, then moved my bed against the farthest wall. I sat down on the bed and pulled my knees up to my chest trying to make myself as comforted as possible. Another scream in the night by the man followed by another roar from the beast.

I tried to stay awake for as long as I could but soon visions of Matthew and Jake began to swirl threw my mind. I saw Jake standing at the gallows ready to pull the rope. I ran threw the crowd then and called out to him. For once he seemed to notice me, and seemed to react to my warnings. Jake backed away from the rope and stared at me in the crowd until the image dissipated. Then I was in the blackness again. There was nothing more than that.

I awoke when I heard the sound of movement against the door. I pressed myself against the wall utterly terrified. I tried to look around for a weapon but found nothing. The door moved then and the desk and chair along with it. Light flooded the opening and Zepher stuck his head threw. "You alright?" He asked looking at me like I was strange. "Did you not hear all that last night?" I asked a little louder than I probably should have. He pushed the door opened a little bit further until he was able to stick his body threw. "Oh the screaming and howling. Yeah that one of the other people who lives here now. He never comes out of his hut. Guilt rules his hell here. I looked at him strangely as I tried to take in what he was telling me. "Well, there are supposed to be a lot of people coming here today so if you want you can come outside now." Zepher spoke. I looked around warily before standing up. I followed him outside into the brilliant sun.
