Chapter Seven
|Andy's POV|
I'm back. I'm finally back! I don't have paws anymore! I can eat normal food now! I can use the bathroom and not go outside to do so! I don't have ears or a tail anymore! Ok, the ears and tail were actually pretty cool...
I walked up the stairs, stumbling every now and then. I held onto the railing for support, and continued up the stairs. I reached the top of the stairs and ran to Ashley's room. Not a very good idea because I tripped over my own feet but, you know, oh well.
I opened the door to Ashley's room and went straight towards his wardrobe. I found a pair of black jeans and a black V-neck. I stood there, contemplating on whether or not I should wear the flannel. Deciding I'd keep it on, I threw on the shirt and jeans, and working my arms into the sleeves of the oversized flannel.
Once I was decent, I walked downstairs, finding Ashley sitting in his usual spot on the couch. I sat down beside him, noticing his stressed posture.
"Andy, you can't stay here for long. You know that, right?" He said, looking up at me. I shook my head in reply, hoping that he wasn't saying what I thought he was saying.
"Your parents, Andy! Why else would you have to go?"
"I don't have to go anywhere!" I retorted.
"Why are you so damn stubborn about going back to your parents?" Ashley yelled, his face holding a concerned, but stern look. I stared at him, my words getting caught in my throat, making me unable to speak.
"Andy?" His tone softened, but not enough to where it wouldn't intimidate you, even by a little.
"I- I just don't want to go." I whispered, looking at my feet as I started to play with my fingers a bit.
"Why, Andy?" I just shook my head.
"Don't make me go." My voice was barely audible by now, fear of what's to come to me if I were to go back home. Ashley must've noticed, because he let out a small sigh, and I felt two fingers tap on my chin. I lifted my face, looking at him for a moment.
"Andy, if there's something going on inside of that house, you got to tell me or at least someone. There's obviously an issue because of your attitude right now. What is it?"
I broke at that moment, I told him what was wrong. What my parents say to me, how they hit me. How they would yell at me non-stop. Everything, really. I didn't go into detail about any of it, though, I couldn't. It's all just a bit too much to handle and to talk about. Besides, what's the point of telling everything? Nobody wants to sit around, talking about a guy's parents all day.
We sat in silence for a moment, which I felt was uncomfortable. I had no other choice but to break it.
"So, now that I'm... human, we should go out and do something. You know, fun?" I gave Ashley a small smile, wanting to forget about the conversation before.
Ashley nodded with a small shrug, seemingly wanting to put aside the conversation as well.
"How about the movies? I don't know." He suggested, smiling softly. I nodded at the idea, before I got an idea.
"Laser tag? I know I place I'd used to go to when I was 10." Ashley raised an eyebrow, giving me an 'Are you sure that's a good idea?' type of look, causing me to laugh.
"Please, Ashley? If we're going to learn more about each other, we might as well do it in a fun way." I looked at Ashley, pleading him with my eyes. Ashley let out a sigh.
"Fine, laser tag it is."
"Yay!" I cheered, jumping off the couch and running upstairs to grab my phone.
When I got back downstairs Ashley was all ready to go, his keys in his hand.
"Ready?" He asked. I nodded, walking outside the door.
--
The ride to the laser tag place was fun. Every song that came on was perfect. Ashley and I had sung along to practically all of them. It was like we had been friends with each other for years. At least, I am pretty sure we're friends. Are we?
I shook my head, letting the thought pass as I realized that we were outside of our destination.
"This is going to be awesome!" I exclaimed, getting more and more anxious. What can I say? Laser tag was pretty fun.
"Okay, okay, calm down. We're going in." Ashley laughed, getting out of the car. I followed his actions, walking towards the entrance of the building.
----
"Any sign of the others?" I whispered to Ashley, who was crouching beside me with his gun ready.
"No. You?"
I shook my head. Just as I was about to run off, a blue flash rounded the corner of the wall.
"Over there!" I whisper-yelled, sneaking over to the target. I heard the sound of someone getting shot, causing me to turn around.
"Close call." Ashley whispered, the silhouette of a man showing in the blue light. I smiled.
"Good. We should probably split up, I saw someone going that way." I nodded my head towards the direction.
"Are you sure? I mean, splitting up, we could both get out pretty quickly."
I shrugged, "Well, yeah. But we could find the others quicker that way, too."
"Good point." He nodded, heading towards the other side of the room.
I smirked, scanning the area for any blue lights. When I saw that the coast was clear, I made my way around the corner.
I saw the blue flash, and instantly quickened my pace. Right when I thought I had the guy, I ran right into someone, falling on top of them. I looked down at the person, blushing immediately as I saw who it was.
"Uh...um." I laughed nervously, looking down at Ashley, not knowing what to do. It felt like my brain had no control over my body. I couldn't move, let alone think, of what to do.
For all I know, that blue flash had gotten away.
