Novocaine Hearts

Lexa's POV

When Juliet and Riley were done with me, I didn't even recognise myself.
My purple hair was perfectly curled, my make up was flawless and my outfit was on point. The black peplum top Juliet gave me was sheer lace over my chest and back. It was an odd contrast with my pale skin, but I liked it.
"You know, you could be a model. You have the perfect body for it" Riley commented.
"Nahh, I think I'll stick with being a guitarist" I laughed.
"Well you really scrub up nice. See what happens what you apply proper make up?" Juliet said inspecting my face again.
"Yes, I know, but I don't have time for that stuff. I'm not really girly girly. No one was really around to show me that stuff" I shrugged.
"Question. What was it like coming off drugs? How did you deal with the withdrawal symptoms?" Riley asked nervously.
I was taken aback by the question. Even Juliet looked confused.
Riley sensed the awkwardness. "Umm, you know what, don't worry about it. Not up for discussion" she said and got up from her chair and left the room.
"What was that about?" I said slowly.
Juliet shrugged.
"Did Riley have drug problems? Or had?" I questioned.
"Umm, it was more prescription drugs. She had severe anxiety a while ago. She's been a lot better over the last few years, but I personally think that all this stress with songwriting and performing has put a lot of pressure on her. Maybe she wants to get back on pills, but then they'll be side affects..." She explained.
"Ohh. I didn't know that about Riley..."
"That girl is full of mysteries. We have come to know all of them over the years."
"Why? What else is she hiding?"
"Nothing. Everything about her is out in the open. Everyone knows her secrets. The only thing that is kept hidden is her relationship with Ashley. They have days when they are the perfect couple and everything is peachy and other days when they barely speak. I don't get them personally" Juliet explained. "But you don't have to worry about her. That's unfortunately my job... So Jake should be here any minute" she smiled excitedly.
"Oh yeah, Jake. Do you think he'll like this?" I said gesturing to my new look.
"He'll love it!"
Not a second later, there was a knock on the door.
I felt my face flush and butterflies fill my stomach.
Juliet went to open the door and let Jake in.
His eyes went from calm to wow.
"H-hey" he stammered.
"Hi" I said shyly.
We both stood there awkwardly in awe.
"Okay, you guys have fun. Try no to get spotted. What time do you think you'll be back?" Juliet asked.
"Oh, umm, 11:30? Is that okay Jake?" I said nervously.
"Oh, sure. Plenty of time. Let's go" he smiled and took my hand.
"Bye Jules. Thanks" I waved to her as Jake lead me out of the room.
When we got to the elevators Jake quickly pushed the button then pulled me into his arms.
"You look amazing by the way" he whispered in my ear.
I giggled as I felt myself blush.
"Thanks. It's different for me, but I kinda like it" I said pulling away from him as the elevator doors opened.
"So, why exactly did I get you from Juliet's room? Something happening between the two of you?" He joked.
I laughed. "You wish. No, umm, my bandmates didn't want me going out with you tonight. So, I lied to them and said I was hanging out with Juliet tonight."
"Don't you think they'd check up on you?"
"Nahh, I'm with another girl. Girls don't let me do stupid things" I giggled.
"And boys do?" Jake smirked.
"Usually. So, what are we doing tonight? Please don't tell you're taking me to your gym" I joked.
Jake chuckled. "Nope, that's on our next day off. Tonight, we can be normal and go on a normal date."
"Okay, I'm down. Show me what a normal date is."
Jake held my hand as we walked down the street to where there was a small Italian restaurant.
A hostess seated us in their outside area and gave us menus.
"Can I ask you something?" Jake said once the hostess disappeared.
"Of course. Anything" I shrugged.
"Why are your bandmates so protective? It's really strange."
"Umm, its hard to explain since I don't really remember what happened. But... a few years ago I was dating this guy. I was a heavy user at that time, but I thought I loved him. My bandmates say he used me for sex and we'd just drink and do drugs. But then he broke my heart. And I apparently got very depressed... and suicidal. Nate only recently told me this. He said I nearly drowned. And it scares to think of what I'm capable of cause I don't remember any of it" I explained. Only repeating what Nate told me.
"They think it will happen again?" He asked after a moment.
"Yeah... They don't trust me. Even though I've been clean most of 3 years. For now I'm just going to deal with it cause they're only looking out for me, but I know I can control myself."
"Don't they get on your nerves?"
"Yeah, of course they do. We keep fighting and I'm hating it."
A sad expression came across Jake's face. He reached his hand across the table and placed it over mine.
"I'm always here if you need me. No matter what. I don't want you fighting with your band though. Anything you can do to make it right?"
"I don't know. They want me to hang out with them more, which I probably should, but I want to spend time with you" I smiled sweetly.
"Well just remember, they are your friends. They just want what's best and honestly I think I understand where they are coming from."
"I know. Sometimes it gets too much. They know every secret about me. I just want them to treat me normally."
"They will. Just give it time."
