Hiding Behind The Light

Jinxx awoke in his bunk, his throat dry and his stomach aching. Lovely just lovely. He tried to speak but all that came out were a few croaks. Well shit, he had a show to play with the guys and yet another meet and greet. He sat up and knocked on Ashley’s bunk. Ash stirred and groggily sat up, “whatdya want??” he yawned displaying a perfect set of teeth like a lion. Jinxx waved and began to sign. Jake had forced them to learn so they could communicate with their earplugs in and while onstage after starting the wrong song when their lineup changed. It took ash a minute to realize what he was saying.
“You’re sick and don’t know if you can do the show today??” Ash questions. Jinxx nods and signs for him to go tell the guys. “Fine but you owe me Jinxxy.” Jinxx blushes at the nickname as he turns to go get a drink.
Ashley went to go wake the rest of the guys, as they were just about to reach the venue. Andy pulled Ash into his bed, “dude go back to bed” Ashley squirmed out of the singer’s grip, damn you to hell Andrew get off!!
Jake lays in his bunk listening to the commotion and watching Jinxx in the doorway. CC is still snoring away beneath him dreaming about a life with the one man that he loves more than anyone.
Ashley Purdy was a well desired man. Many one night stands and relationships had already proven that fact. Even the straightest of men would end up checking him out. That’s how he caught the eye of everyone’s favorite goofball drummer. Just band mates, that’s what CC thought until that fateful night. Of course they had been drinking and partying together. They had a reputation to uphold after all. CC had decided, “Hey since we’re drunk and never going to remember this lets be insane and play truth or dare.” This hadn’t ended well.
“Hey C. dude you need to get up,” Jake’s voice cut through CC’s dream. CC turned over in his bunk and pulled the blanket over his head. “Five more minutes mom.” Jake laughed, drawing the attention of Ashley. “Is he refusing to get up again??”
Jake nods at him and CC feels a presence draw closer. Please don’t be Ash, please don’t be Ash. “CC you need to get up.” Ashley places a hand on CC’s shoulder and he stiffens beneath him. SHIT, SHIT SHIT!!! ABORT I REPEAT ABORT ALL THOUGHTS OF YOUR DREAMS!! CC bolted upright and practically ran Andy over trying to get into the bathroom first. Andy jumped back in the nick of time to avoid a hurtling black blur.
“Uhhhh CC are you okay??” Andy received a slamming door in response. Jake laughed at this, “Damn Ash, I should have you get him up every day.”
Jinxx stood by the door quietly admiring his secret desire. He was always this way. Standing in the background unnoticed by the one person he got the most. Ashley Abrocket Purdy was the one man Jinxx adored more than life itself. To Jinxx he was flawless, beautiful in every way, precious to a fault, and a vision of perfect imperfection. He saw the world differently, was not afraid to go after what he wanted, stronger than Jinxx could ever be.
Andy snapped his fingers in front of Jinxx’s face again. “Guys I think he’s finally lost it.” Jinxx was lost in thought staring off into space. Ash shrugged, “well CC is taking forever so we can’t pour water on his face.” Ash pulled his nightshirt over his head and Jinxx flushed pink.
“Sorry guys lost in thought.” Jinxx ducked out of the room and went to breathe in the kitchen. Jake stared after him, his heart in burning agony. He may not be a genius but it was obvious where his gaze had been. Ashley always got the chicks and most the dudes, why couldn’t this single one be different?? Just him?
