Dead on the Inside

Noor POV

I glare at my arm on the train ride home, Maria sniggering next to me.
"What did he do to irritate you so much, hmm?"
I continue to scowl, muttering an answer quietly beneath my breath.
"Excuse me, what was that?" She leans in, with a hand behind her ear, comically and I elbow her in the side.
"I said, the guy is an arse."
She laughed, "well I can agree he has a nice one, but what did he actually do?"
I roll my eyes and lean back in the uncomfortable seat, staring at the ceiling. "Nothing... I just don't particularly think he's all that."
"He's awesome, he offered to walk us back; a total gentleman." I turn my glare onto Maria and she stops and changes the sentence abruptly. "No, no, you're right, he's a total and complete butt. No sarcasm intended!"
I smirk, before glaring at the older man, across the row, following Maria's legs unfolding and folding again. He looks up and meets my gaze, jumping slightly before standing and moving to the next carriage.
"Thanks Noor," I look at Maria and see her smiling.
I roll my eyes, "shut up. I'm a total bitch."
"Yeah, but you're a nice one."
"Fuck you."


Andy POV

I slump back in my bunk, turning my head when I hear the curtain open.
"Dude, what happened?" Ash looks at me, a single brow raised in question.
"I messed up.."
He leans his head on his arms and stares directly at my face, the question obvious in his eyes.
"Okay, there have been a few problems with Juliet recently. But Noor... She just made my head go blank. I forgot the world around us existed... But I... fucked it all up."
"Dude... Just tell me what actually happened. I can't deal with all this girly shit."
I laugh at Ash's bored expression before telling him properly.
"So what you're saying is, you told her that she's hiding things from you... That she's faking a personality... You know she seemed pretty confident and happy to me. Maybe you got it wrong."
I shake my head, "no. Her face, when I told her, changed. Got all cold and shit... It was like talking to a block of ice."
"Maybe she just doesn't like people digging into her supposed feelings. I know I like my privacy."
I nod and turn back to the ceiling. "Yeah you're right.. She probably won't text either..."
A sudden ping alerts me to my phone and I look at it in surprise; as does Ash.
"There's no way..." He laughs and glances at the phone, seeing its an unknown number. "I refuse to believe it."
I open up the message and read:

heya, this is andy right?
it's maria, u know, noor's friend (I took the no. from her arm)
she's a teensy bit mad at u rn but im sure its just a phaseeee!
we're acc in the US next month for a year soooo if you want I can keep you updated??!!!

I stare at the message, a huge grin forming on my face.
"Dude... I think that the big man in the sky is your bro today."
I nod before typing out a message:

hey, yeah it's andy, and I remember you dw
yeah I realised she was... and thanks that would be awesome! she's really cool, yknow?

I press send and wait until the next ping; picking up my phone in joyous anticipation.

yeah she's awesome and I love her to bits. shes got a few weird tendencies but dont read too deeply. shes just not a people person! well enjoy the rest of the tour and I'll keep you updated!

I send a quick and final thank you before staring at the most recent text.
Don't read too deeply? She's obviously in pain...
I shake off the feeling before putting my phone on charge and turning off the light to rest up for the rest of the journey.


Noor POV

I collapse into bed, glancing at my arm; red raw from the effort it took to wipe off the number.
I close my eyes, opening them up again in shock when I see her face in the darkness.
Shuddering, I reach over to my side drawer, opening it up to reveal an abundance of sleeping pills. I tip two in my hand and swallow them whole, forcing my eyes closed, nevermind the faces creeping into my vision.
My nails dig into my wrist as I fight the images away, trying to think of something else instead.
Andy...
I shake off the feeling and wait for the substance to take effect, calming when it does and I slip down into an empty blackness.
