“Jake?” I craned my neck out the window, squinting to see if the wall was still there.

“When you invertebrates finish pair bonding in here, I have an escape tunnel that’s good to go.” Jake shouted through the window at us.

“How the hell did you get outside?” Jinxx shoved past me and stepped out of the window. When I followed I saw that Jake had already built a long tented metal tunnel with vertical wooden support beams down the inside.

“The third floor’s under construction so the windows don’t have security bars on them.” Jake stood atop the metal tent proudly. I had to hand it to him, it looked pretty sturdy.

“Dammit.” I scoffed.

“I used CC’s design.” Jake bowed to me.

“I didn’t tell you my design….” I looked at him wearily.

“You feeling all right buddy?” Jake stepped down from the structure. Ashley had begun the process of burning holes into the wall. “You texted this stuff to me hours ago.”

“Great! Now you can help us with the fire!” Andy leapt back into the window and started tossing chairs outside. Jinxx loaded up a stack of chairs and headed for the wall.

I examined the metal tent in awe then noticed the broken third floor window, a sheet hung out the window with a bucket tied to the end of it.

“CC.” Jake called out to me.

“Yeah.” I smiled at him.

“Think fast.” He tossed a granola bar at me suddenly. “Let’s get the hell out of here.”
