When my eyes opened everything was blurry. I couldn’t figure out where I was.

My hearing started out as a high pitched ringing in my ears which faded to silence. I lifted my head slightly but my neck was sore and stiff as though I’d been lying in the same spot for hours.

I moved my fingertips and felt carpet beneath them. My chest was touching the same carpet, and I could feel my shirt bunched up around my collarbone as though I’d been trying to take it off in a hurry but didn’t quite finish the job before I hit the ground.

I tried to yell but nothing came out. My throat burned and my mouth was dry, I must’ve slept with it open. I clenched my jaw shut and pushed myself up by the fingertips, lifting my aching head off of the floor.

I surveyed my surroundings. It looked like a hotel room, 2 beds with dull patterned bedding, 2 tables with 2 lamps on them. A TV was fastened to the wall, the curtains were closed and sunlight barely escaped a huge window behind it.

I found my phone in my pocket and unlocked it. The last thing I tweeted was, ‘If you had a master key that opens every room in a hotel in Russia, what would you do? It just so happens that I do…’
