Unknown Being

It was September 4, the first day of school for the adoptive siblings. Of course, Matt was of no mind to go. Cat had to practically drag him out of bed and make him get ready for the day.

"Come on, Matt, I'll be right there with you. It's going to be okay."

"I know. I just hate first days," he said, feeling lethargic as he went through his routine.

On the way to school, as expected, Vince passed them and shouted some profanities. Matt held his tongue at Cat's request despite his temptations.

It was first period and they had English together. The teacher was taking attendance.

"Catherine Hahn!"

"Cat, please," she responded.

"Alright then. Matthew Hahn!"

"Call me Matt."

"Okay. Are you siblings?"

"No they aren't," someone said.

Matt glared. "Actually we are, by adoption."

"Yep," Cat piped in. "He's part of my family as of July 29."

"Bullshit," people screamed. Matt put his head down, hoping it could get no worse.

At lunch, Vince actually started a fight with someone and Matt ended up getting hit multiple times in the subsequent food fight. He was even more sour by then. Cat was quick to help him clean up and calm him down.

"Hey loser," Vince sneered, "Is your girlfriend doing you good?"

Matt felt tears in his eyes as Cat led him away.

The rest of the day was no better. "It's going to be okay," Cat told her brother. "It's going to be okay."

"I hope," he said darkly.

So a kinda short chapter just to help set up a little drama for the school year. Should be interesting. Peace out
