Unknown Being

Prologue

It was unusually cold, even for January in Massachusetts. Many residents had never witnessed such cold weather before. But Matt loved it. He loved watching the snow blow in the howling winds of blizzards. It reminded him of himself, a swirling bundle of chaos. His mind was exactly that; his self-esteem had gone way below normal levels from bullying and mental self-harm. He often wondered how he went through life. But he knew the answers: 1, he didn't actually and only pretended to, and 2, the one his friend Cat preferred to use, he had the music of Black Veil Brides. It had stopped him from self-harming many times, the lyrics brightening his mood and the instrumentals causing waves of pleasure to course through his body.
Cat called him. "Dude, it's me."
Matt rolled his eyes slightly. "I have caller ID, Cat; I know it's you. What's up?"
Cat smiled at her friend's sass. "I just wanted to let you know that I got your birthday present and I'll get it to you ASAP, whenever that is, considering the weather."
"Ok, thanks. You're the best," he responded with a smile. His birthday was on January 31; it was the 29th.
"You aren't going to ask what it is," she asked.
"One, what's the fun in that? Two, knowing you, it'll be awesome," he answered.
Cat felt a warm fuzzy feeling develop in her stomach at his kind words; she had feelings for him that she refused to tell him for fear of losing his friendship; she valued it far too much to risk losing it. She giggled slightly and said, "Ok then. I won't tell you. I'll see you later, Matt."
"Don't hang up," he whined. "I like hearing your voice." Cat smiled again. He can be so cute, she though.
"Then what do you want to talk about? We have to talk about something or you can't hear my voice."
Matt grinned and he said, "Don't you think it's hard to believe that we're going to be upperlassmen next year? I mean, we're almost halfway done with high school. What the heck? We go off to college in two years." His grin faded and he paused before quietly saying, "I'm not happy after two years."
Cat frowned. "Well first, yeah, it is hard to believe that we're upperclassmen next year. But more importantly, what do you mean," she asked gently.
"My parents want to move back to Los angeles and I'll be able to go to college for music. That's all great but I won't have my best friend there to share the good times. They don't know when they'll move and they said they refuse to tell me when they do know. Something about me getting used to sudden change." He grew frustrated. "They know I don't do well with abrupt changes! They know it stresses me out too much!"
Cat waited patiently. "Matt, it's going to be okay. We'll stay in touch. Even if you get a new phone with a new number, I don't have plans to ever change my phone number so you can just text me whenever you want."
"They always put me in uncomfortable situations and expect me to be able to adapt to them! I'm not that simple! They know I need time to think and adjust! They know that and don't adapt to their son!" He whimpered softly. "Cat, why do they do these things to me?"
They girl wished she could talk to her friend in person. "i don't know, Amtt. They have some sort of reason. I don't know."
"Do they think I'm weak? Am I weak, Cat?" His tone wavered and Cat felt a lump in her throat; she knew it meant that he was close to tears. No, she though, I have to be strong for him.
"No, Matt; you're strong. You'll be okay. I know you will; you're stronger than you think. And even if you leave, I will make our last few years together memorable."
She knew that Vince and Kayla would try to ruin Matt's last few years, but Catherine already had something to start them off right: a pair of tickets for the two of them to go to Warped Tour that summer and see Black Veil Brides live, along with other bands, and VIP packages to meet BVB; she knew that would make him happy. She smiled, proud of herself.

Notes

So this is my first story on here, though not my first fanfiction; I've written various ones over on fanfiction.net. I figured that, because I like BVB (obviously) and because I like to write in my free time, something I feel soothing and cathartic, I figured that I would try to write a BVB fanfiction. As it stands now, this is not necessarily a romance fic. I might pair Matt and Cat (rhyming not intended; wasn't really thinking about that at the time as this was late last night). Vince and Kayla are together, of course, but I won't be focusing on their relationship. Maybe a bad breakup at most.
Please do critique; I love feedback on my work.
