Blood Queen

“What?!” He winces at my sudden outburst but I barely notice. How is this possible? This isn’t possible. There has to be some kind of mistake.

“But, I don’t drink blood or turn into a wolf or anything, I-I’m sorry, but you have the wrong person.” I meant to speak calmly but all of my words come out in a rush.

“You aren’t a full vampire, you’re half mortal, which explains why you don’t drink blood or live forever. Your powers won’t manifest unless you become a full vampire.” This is ridiculous, I’m human. Moreover I’m myself, I’m not special in any way, I’m just ordinary, boring, needy, insecure… me.

“I’m sorry.” I repeat. “You have the wrong person. I’m not a vampire.” He sits down next to me on the black bedspread.

“Haven’t you ever noticed that you heal faster than normal? That you are uncomfortable around holy water? That you don’t look like your father?” Oh my god. He’s right about all of that. I always thought that my body healed faster because it was used to being injured. I chalked my discomfort near churches up to a dismissal of religion. As for not looking like my father, I believed that the drugs had been responsible for his change in appearance.

Yesterday I wouldn’t have believed this. But I didn’t believe in vampires yesterday. And some part of me, perhaps the vampire part, instinctively knows he’s right.

“How do you even know this?” I blurt, my logical mind making a last-ditch effort to reject what I am. He takes a long time to answer,

“I… I know because you are the daughter of the late vampire empress Lenore. And I’m sworn to protect you.”

Kind of short chapter. Shoutout to @Ellie_Phant for persuading me to update tonight!

Some serious drama and excitement is planned for the next chapter but I don't want to give too much away so I'll just say that I don't think you'll see this comeing. :)
