Bloody good time

chapter ten

March 16th, 2015

Los Angeles, California

*Ashley's point of view*

Ann and I both woke at dawn. While I searched over the orphanages in L.A., seeing who works there and the children living there at the time, Ann began preparing a feast for the upcoming child and guests she plans to invite. And when I say prepare, I mean she's calling the best of the best catering companies because in the words of Ann herself, "Why cook it yourself when you can pay someone else to it for you?" I swear, I'm in love with a spoiled brat.

She spent over three hours on the phone setting everything up just the way she felt fit. I have long decided which would be the proper orphanage to raid. A very poor home in downtown LA. I find it absolutely ridiculous they'd actually build that in such a horrible part of town. We're doing that kid a favor stealing them from there.

"I found the place. Poor part of town. You know, drugs and gangs. That kind of shit," I inform Ann, who has finally put down her phone.

"So, if we take a kid, no one will really going to look into it?" She questions.

I nod, "Basically." I stand up from the island and close my laptop, "I say we head there now."

"Agreed. Should we bring a gift for the other children? Considering their poorer standard of living," She motions her hands to the pile of toys and clothes I had purchased the night prior. "We can buy more."

I grab a large tote and toss in articles of clothing, along with dolls, trucks, and a few stuffed animals. Enough for all the children in the home. I place the lid on then Ann and I go through the garage to the car to begin the drive downtown. As we got closer to the home, the ride felt depressing. Large houses turned into apartments, which turned into homes that closely resembled nicely built shacks.

"I mean it isn't horrible here but not great," Ann sighs taking notice to the poor shape of this area.

"It could be worse, " I say then point out the home. "There it is. Slightly better than the rest of these places but no place for kids."

She nods her head in agreement then and parks right in front of the home. We unload ourselves and walk straight to the door, locking the car behind us multiple times. Ann doesn't bother to knock and walks right in. Her stilettos making enough of a clicking noise to alert the whole house she has arrived.

"Who is that?!" A harsh voice calls from down the hall.

"I'm here to see the children!" Ann's light, accented voice echos back to the man. She responds assertively and confident to his rudeness. "I want a tour now!" She again demands.

A large, tan skinned man stomps down the hallway. He looked like a much buffer and steriod-y me. "Who the fuck are you?" The man practically grunts back to Ann, getting to close for comfort.

Ann pulls off her large, rounded sunglasses, removes her sun hat to make proper eye contact. "My name is Ann. Ann Purdy and I am here with my husband to aquire some children," She pushes right past the man, who is steaming from all the disrespect Ann has shown, to walk down the hall way he has come from. Giving her signature snooty hip sway. "Give me a tour," She commands the steriod junky and he follows like a dog, rushing in front of Ann to lead her around.

The house inside was taken much better care of than it was outside. Everything was at least clean and baby proofed. There was 4 rooms, none of them completely full. About 2 or 3 kids in the first room. Jennifer and Lilly both in their teens, they were about 17 so they don't have much more time in this place. Ann leaves them a check, vividly instructing them to use it for an apartment after the graduate.

Another room had a pair of twins who looked barely a year and half, cooing and playing with teddy bears. They jump up from their resting positions when they see us, pacifiers falling from their mouths as they squeal and droll. They were both chubby with heads full of blonde curls. They hopped in their cribs, holding out their arms for affection.

"Oh my god! They're little cherubs!" Ann gushed over them, scooping up one of the toddlers. She played with the toddler's curls and stubby little fingers then picks up the second toddler in the opposite arm. She goes on and on about how sweet they smell, how squishy they are, how cute they are, "I want them and I'm not leaving without them."

I take the toddler from her left arm, he smacks my cheek and screams with delight, clapping his hands afterwards. The steriod-y me chuckles a little, shaking his head at the toddler, "That's just how Jackson greets people. He likes you."

Ann starts giving the other toddler multiple kisses on his cheek, already calling him her baby. She takes a break from showing affection to turn to the steriod-y me, "How much do you want for them?" Of course she thinks she can buy people.

"That's not how it works here, you're supposed to go through a background check, pay a fee, fill out more paperwork, and if everything's solid then you can take Jackson and Gregory home," he responds, "I know I don't run the best place but I do have to follow government rules."

"Can't we just pretend that these two munchkins were never in your system and just let me take them home?" Ann asks nicely, in a bit of a puppy dog voice.

He then denies her request, "I said I cant. Either go through the right process or get out." Ann continues to try and bargain with the man but he shuts down every offer. "Imma need you get out. I'm not dealing with you."

Ann lets out an exasperated sigh and hands Gregory over to me. "I thought we could work something out but you just have to be difficult." Within two seconds she has him pinned against the hallway wall, fangs sunk deep into his jugular vein, draining all of his life force. Jackson and Gregory have no idea what's going on as they pull my hair and play with my sunglasses.

Ann releases herself from his throat and tosses his lifeless body over her shoulder. "Let's go before the other children wonder what's going on." She heads for the stairs but makes a stop at the teenagers room. "Go watch the other kids make sure they're okay then call the police and tell them your guardian left you guys alone. Say he was drunk or high, I don't care."

"But he's dead! I see him right over your shoulder!" Lilly screeches.

"Lillian! You shut your mouth or I'm cancelling the check! I'm trying to take you both out of this shit hole so listen to me!" Ann growls.

Jennifer nods her head, completely unfazed by the dead body, "Yes Ma'am. Are we going to see you again?"

Ann shrugs, "I'll find you. I got your scent," She taps her nose then smiles at the girls, "You both act right. I'll see you soon."

I said good bye to the girls as well and followed Ann out the front door. What I love about Ann is that she just nonchalantly just walks out with a dead body on her shoulder then tosses him in the trunk. She takes the tote full of toys and clothing, goes back inside to set it down but then veers off somewhere in the house. After about ten minutes she's comes back out with folders, I'm assuming is Greg and Jackson's information and documents.

"I had to find this. We're gonna need these if we're going to put them through school. Besides I need to know allergies and conditions," Ann pauses to look into the back seat, "Fuck, we didn't bring carseats!" she curses.

"We'll buckle them in the back and I'll sit with them," I say.

"This will be the only time I'll ever allow this to happen," She opens the back door for me so I can place Gregory on one side and Jackson on the other. I tighten both their seat belts to make sure they won't be able to get out. I place my self in the middle of the two toddlers and wrap an arm around both of them. Ann gets I'm the front seat and starts driving us home.

"Do you think they're hungry?" I question, "When's the catering going to be there?"

"I told everyone, including the guys, to be at the new house by 2 for the party. It's almost one so Gregory and Jackson can snack on something small before then. I think we have some apples in the fridge," She responds.

I spent most of the car ride just admiring what was ours now. What our life is going to be now. I just start imagining taking them for their first day of school. Kissing their scrapped knees. Taking care of them when they're sick. Watching Saturday morning cartoons with them. Playing peekaboo. They may not be little vampire babies but they're my children and I will raise the fuck out of these kids.
