Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 7: Library books and ice-cream sundae

The clock is ticking and the noise coming from it makes me go nuts. Why can't the day just end yet? So far, the only thing that has happened was a math test. Currently, I'm at a lecture in ancient roman history. Instead of taking notes I'm drawing. The entire page is covered by charcoal sketches of dark flowers, rather than actual useful notes. But that doesn't mean I don't listen. I just don't care.

I run my fingers through my my long, blonde hair and zone out for a few seconds, thinking about what happened this morning. Atleast I have one less person to be scared off.

The bell rings and school is out. Finally.

I grab my bag, leave the classroom and head straight for the library to borrow a few books. There was something about walking around amongst the bookshelfs that I really enjoyed. Looking for books on roman mythology, I am approached by Andy.

"A bookworm, I see?" He smirked. Oh great, we're back mocking me.

"I thought you weren't gonna make fun of me."

"I'm not making fun of you. I think it's cool that you enjoy books."

"Huh. Really?" I said sarcastically.

"I thought we were on good terms." He said, sounding slightly dissappointed.

"We are. I'm sorry, it's just kinda hard to forgive you after you've been tormenting me ever since freshman year." I answered, trying my best not to sound pissed.

"Soo, whatcha up to this afternoon?"

"I was thinking of calling my best friend Jenna. I haven't hung out with her in a while."

"Really?" Andy lifted one of his eyebrows, seeming like he did not believe me. "If not I was thinking maybe we could hang out. As I said, I want to get to know you."

"Yeah. Sure. I guess Jenna can wait." I really missed Jenna. Hadn't talked to her in a while.
"So what do you suggest we do?"

"I know this cute ice cream shop downtown that's closing soon, if you wanna go. Or else we could just have a walk in the park."

"Ice cream sounds great."

We arrived later on to the place. It was really cute, right by the riverbend. The glass doors and the white walls made it look really clean, while the white wood furniture on the outside reminded me of old-school coffee shops. We both bought ice cream sudaes and sat down in the sunny weather outside.

"I've never heard of this place before, which is strange, I've been here millions of times."

"Well, my parents used to take me here when I was a kid. Now I go here with friends, girlfriends, or people I want to get to know."

"Huh. Never knew." I said, eating a spoonful of ice-cream.

"Could I ask you a question?" I said after a few seconds of silence.

"Yeah?"

"The night that I almost got raped. The night when you punched the guy in the face and told me to run. What were you doing out that night?"

"That is a long story, rather personal too. You don't wanna hear it."

"Yes I do wanna hear it. If you're gonna get to know me, I need to get to know you."

He smiled. I hate to admit it, but he had a really cute smile.

"I was drunk. Not very drunk. Me and Ashley had been at this party at Jake's place, none of cared too much about that we had school the day after. It was quite rad to be honest, lots of girls and stuff. I didn't care too much about that though, I was there with my then-girlfriend, now ex-girlfriend. Ashley is quite a ladies man though, so he had lots of fun. Jake and I were hanging out with Nix, you know Nix right?"

I nodded as I pictured the party in my head.

"Then I noticed my girl was missing and I went through all the rooms to find her when I caught her cheating with another guy. Naturally we broke up right there on the spot, but I was really heartbroken. So I decided to get really fucking hammered. Three shots later I realized that wasn't such a good idea though, so I left instead. Slightly tipsy I attempted to walk here, I wasn't smart enough to realize it wouldn't be open at that hour. Then I saw you with Jeremy's sister by the riverbend and decided to follow you. I wanted to take my anger out on you, but since I've met your friend before I knew I shouldn't mess with you in her presence. So I followed you-"

"You followed me?" I said in a slightly upset tone.

"Will you let me finish?" He said, laughing. "I was drunk, okay? I didn't know what I was doing! But then I saw you getting hit on by those guys and I though to myself "hey, that's not cool yo! She's my pal!". So a sense of protection hit me and I decided to step in. It was only afterwards when I realized that you weren't my pal. I didn't even know you. And that's why I changed."

"Wow. I think I really prefer drunk you before school-you." I said.

"I told you, it was a long story. You feel like leaving? I mean, you're all out of ice-cream..."

"Yeah, sure."

After a while we reached the park were we had sat down the same morning. This time it was easier to admire the beauty of it. The green colors were much more prevalent and the heat from the sun was wonderfully satisfying.

We sat down in the green grass, talking about school, the teachers, the subjects. Our spare time, the music we liked, the hobbies we had. After a while the sun started to slowly set, and the apricot-colored sky mesmerized me. I felt an arm wrap around me, pulling me closer.

"You know what Biersack, you're not so awful after all. Maybe you actually do have a soul."

"Am I forgiven for my mistakes?"

"Not yet. Just not yet."

Notes

Another chapter. I realize I update this story a lot, maybe I should put more effort into every individual chapter instead of just writing whatever comes to mind.

So Andy seems...sweet suddenly? Iris seems to have a hard time trusting him. Remember, a lot of things happened during freshman and sophomore year between the two, so it's not hard to see why Iris isn't so sure about this personality change.

500+ views and 10 subscribers! Whoho, thanks! :D

I don't really know what to think of this chapter. I mean, not much happened, it's kind of a filler. Next chapter will include a little bit more of BVB, hopefully. Stay tuned!
