Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 21: Bricks and Combat Boots

I heard the sound of something hard and heavy, possibly a brick, hit the wooden floor downstairs and I instantly stopped breathing. Seconds later I heard the sound of a second brick shattering a window and landing on the floor. My heart stopped and all I could think of was that I shouldn't have come here.

Andy pushed me away quickly, tears still in his eyes.

"Hide! Under my bed, inside the closet, wherever, it doesn't matter. Please, just don't leave me!" He whispered, obvious fright in his eyes.

I nodded, obeying and crawled under the bed, quickly getting my phone from my pocket dialing 911.

"9-1-1 what's you emergency?" The lady on the other line answered. Thank god.

A third brick hit the floor.

"Get down Andy!" I whisper-screamed. "I don't want you to die!"

Andy crawled in underneath the bed, wrapping his arm around me and pulling me close to his chest. I could hear his heart racing.

"Madam?" The lady on the phone said, I must have forgotten about her.

"Yes, sorry, someone is breaking into the house! There have been glass shattering downstairs, and-" I whispered into the phone, not sure if she would hear me. I went silent after a while, listening for any other noises downstairs.

"We will send police right away madam, stay with me. What's the adress?"

I gave her the adress, my name, she told me to stay put and find any type of shelter. The police were on their way. I shoved away the phone without hanging up so that it still was reachable in case I needed to give any new information. Never had I been this scared in my life. Andy pulled me even closer and I felt as he was trying to protect me.

"I love you so much it hurts Iris. I wish I had never been so selfish to put you through this."

"I love you too Andy. And I am so happy that I got here tonight. You shouldn't have saved me. I shouldn't have gone out that night. I am so extremely sorry."

"Saving you was the best thing I have ever done. Don't blame yourself. Just don't die tonight, and I'll be the happiest man alive."

I kissed his cheek, letting my lips slowly move down the flawless skin of his neck. He let out a silent and low-pitched moan, making my heart flutter. Oh, how I wish the circumstances were different.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of something hit against the floor in the hall. This time it wasn't a brick, but something much, much heavier. It happened three more times and the noise was followed by the sound of steps. There were four of them and they were inside the house.

I buried my head deep into Andy's chest and my breathing got heavy, panicking, gasping for air. My heart was racing faster than ever before and I reached for my phone.

"Madam, you're still with me?" The lady said.

"They're in the house!" I whispered ever so quietly.

"The police should be there any minute, just keep calm and turn down the volume of the call to a minimum if you haven't already."

I obliged the orders. Andy gently kissed my forehead and I could hear his heart race just as fast as mine. My hand reached towards his back and I pushed him as close to me as we could possibly get. The slow steps downstairs were infuriating. I could hear furniture being pushed around, tipping over, hitting the floor. No voices were heard, which scared me even more. Atleast if they communicated, I would know what they were up to and what they were going to do next. Now, all I had to go after was the sound of tipping furniture and steps.

Suddenly, I heard noises from the stairs. Someone was walking up the stairs, coming closer to our hiding spot. I held my breath. So did Andy. His head turned slowly upwards, his eyes shifting from the top of my head and focusing on the inch-wide crack between the black fabric covering the bed and the floor. The sound coming of the floor increased for every step.

I looked up, only to notice a pair of back combat boots only a few inches from my face.

Notes

Cliffhanger! Again. I know I am a terrible person.

I really loved writing this chapter. It's part sweet, loving and passionate and part really thrilling.

Also, 2800+ views?! This is insane! Thank you all so much!

I'll try update this once more before going to bed. In other words, the cliffhanger won't be hanging on for very long. Cheers!
