The story of a lonesome ol'Jerome
Special Delivery
*Harriet’s POV*
I sit up in bed, completely rested, totally awake, at 9 am. This has never happened. I have hardly slept, it doesn’t make sense. I look around, confused. Oh well. I get up to go make some coffee, when I hear a knock at the door.
I look through the peephole .Looks like a package delivery. Must be independent courier, as I don’t recognize the uniform. I open the door.
A man, a little older than me, stands there, holding a white package. He has a great smile and looks friendly. He also has a septum ring- how unusual that his company lets him have body jewelry showing, I think.
“This is for you, Harriet. It’s from Owen.” He holds out the package. I take it. It’s so light, it feels almost empty. He turns to leave.
“Wait, don’t I need to sign?” I say.
He turns. “No, but thank you.Thank you so much Harriet.” And then I could swear I saw him start to tear up before he turned again and walked off. He didn’t get into a vehicle. He just kept walking until I realized I just couldn’t see him anymore.
I look at the package. It’s addressed to me, but there’s no return address. Uh. Maybe I shouldn’t open it. I shake it lightly- it seems empty. I set it down and look at it.
Ah, fuck it. I get some scissors and open it. It has one unlined sheet of paper inside. It has Gwyn’s full name on it (Gwyn Elizabeth Hageman), her address, her cell phone number, her personal email, the clinic she works at, and the website for the clinic. Below that, it says “Thank you Harriet. –Owen”
How cool! A friend of hers was watching out for her! I have no idea why he didn’t just message Andy himself- maybe he was afraid that Gwyn would be angry? I had been a little worried about handing Andy her address, but I was totally cool with giving him her contact information!
I ran to my laptop with the sheet of paper, excited. Matchmaker-matchmaker-make me a match!
I was a little surprised that the website for the clinic, All Creatures Great and Small, didn’t list her as one of the 11 veterinarians, but it looked like they only mentioned the clinic owner by name. I went to Twitter and thought about what exactly to say to Andrew Dennis Biersack so that he would take my message seriously.
