~Olivia’s POV~
For the first time in years waking up in Andy’s arms felt okay. I wasn’t tied down to him so there wasn’t any expectation on either of our parts. We woke up at the same time looked at each other and laughed awkwardly. It was like Oops! My bad! Let’s never speak of this again.
He made me breakfast and asked me to sign out of all of his social media accounts to avoid having to think about Emily and I had him sign out of all of mine. There was something incredibly freeing about it.
“You still save your entire glass of milk until after you’ve finished breakfast.” Andy smirked.
I threw a toast crust at his plate, and he ate it. “And you still eat my toast crusts.”
“It’s the best part.” He rolled his eyes.
“No it’s not.” I rolled mine.
“Yes it is.” He glared.
“No,” I said firmly. “It isn’t.” I met his glare.
We burst into laughter a moment later and I brushed a crumb away from the corner of his mouth. His hand caught mine and pushed it away but for some reason I thought he was trying to hold my hand. Our fingers interlaced and his face flushed red. I bit my lip and he leaned over the table to kiss me softly at first which escalated to my shirt flying off over my head and our bodies pressed together longingly as we made out.
“Andy.” I sighed into our kiss.
“Ollie.” He whispered into my neck, kissing the spot that makes me go wild.
“Andy.” I whispered into the spot behind his earlobe that makes him shiver. Our eyes met, lips hot from the fevered kissing.
“We can’t do this.” Andy said.
I pressed a finger to his lips and moved closer, sliding my finger away from his mouth and kissing him softly. “We can.” I whispered, looking up into his eyes. “But afterward I’m going to leave and no one can know about it.” I placed my hands on the corners of his jawline. “Deal?”
He nodded in agreement.
Moments later we were in his bed again teasing each other, taking it slow. He would bring me to a point of near ecstasy and I’d take over, teasing him to his limit before easing off. This continued for several minutes but it felt like so much more. I needed this and he seemed to be enjoying himself.
After we made love for the last time I waited for him to fall asleep, lingering pensively in his arms for a few moments before turning to admire his sleeping face. “Andy?” I whispered.
“Mhm?” He mumbled in his sleep.
“I will always love you.” I whispered, running the edge of my thumb along the thin line below his bottom lip.
“You too.” He mumbled.
I forced my eyes closed but the tears spilled in silence as I left him lying in bed. Andy is too much for me, he falls too hard and loves to the core and that isn’t what I’m looking for. I want the type of love that transforms a dusty raceway into a surreal neon carnival that fades into the same dusty raceway a few days later. True while it lasts, but temporary. Fun. Disposable. Guys like Andy will never be disposable. Neither will Jinxx.
“Hey.” I stood stretching in the morning sunlight on Andy’s porch, phone in one hand and his favorite coffee mug that I intended to accidently take home with me in the other.
“Ollie! Hi!” Jinxx replied.
“This isn’t a happy call babe.” I smiled into a drink of my steaming coffee.
“Oh? And why is that?” He answered, unusually chipper.
“I’m leaving town.” I beamed.
“You’re…what? What have you done?” He became concerned.
I returned Andy’s spare house key under the fichus and unlocked my car, setting his university acceptance letter on the seat next to mine. When I found out he was planning to transfer to Emily’s university with Chris I put in a request to do the same. I knew that Emily wasn’t right for Andy after I saw the video of her making out with Ashley. To use Emily’s own words, I’m not letting him go that easily. “It turns out to further my career I need to transfer to a real university.” I laughed.
“I thought you hated college.” Jinxx sounded confused.
“Oh I’m just getting started.” I started the car and rehearsed stories of why I needed to transfer to his school, of ways to make him see that he needed me in his life whether he wanted it or not.
The radio sang a country song, “So don’t tell me what to do.”
“I’m not sure that I understand what’s going on with you anymore Olivia…You’re not pregnant, you’re breaking up with me, you’ve changed universities and you’re leaving town?” He sounded defeated.
“That sounds about right.” I was fixing my makeup in the tiny sun visor mirror.
“I’ll love you forever if I want to.” The song on the radio continued.
“All right. Bye, I guess.” He sounded too confident.
“Wait.” I punched the radio button off. “Are you in bed with someone?” I feigned anger as I double tapped my way through all of my social media apps, stopping at a new In A Relationship status and staring in awe.
“Maybe you should check your…” Jinxx began.
“Put her on the phone.” I snapped angrily, possibly screaming.
A moment later I heard a quiet boyfriend stealing heart beating on the other end of the line. “You’re just a rebound.” I barked before she could get a word in.
“Please don’t tell Andy.” Emily replied quietly. “I don’t want him to know I got over him this fast.”
Here’s the thing, you don’t get over Andy. He’ll always be The One That Got Away. The guy you realized would show you the kind of love you’d never know again when he handed you a homemade birthday card with prismatic smiley face stickers on it. The one you had to let go of before you became the horrible person that broke him. I knew she wasn’t over him the same way I knew I had to save him from her.
Emily’s grades had fallen in the past term forcing her into academic probation with a suggestion to transfer to on campus housing, which lead me to secure the second bed in her new dorm room. Since Chris was transferring, Amelia would likely follow and we could all rent a house later. “No worries there, Andy and I aren’t exactly on speaking terms.” I began to laugh and still hadn’t stopped when I ended the call, turned the radio up until the speakers began to rattle and hit the freeway.
