~Jinxx POV~
Olivia’s been texting Andy, I overheard her talking to him one night as I was in the next room. Until then I thought things were okay between us.

I hadn’t officially devised a plan to get her away from Andy so the band’s upcoming tour was a miracle. Olivia mentioned hiking the other day so I invited myself along since being up before the sun isn’t really a problem when you haven’t gone to sleep for the night. Blame the rock star lifestyle; I’d be well suited for this tour.

A few footprints straying away from the hiking trail toward the high part of the rocks piqued my interest. I followed them until I saw Amelia standing near the edge of a cliff as Olivia raised her arm out toward her and lowered it again. It was almost like she was about to jokingly push her. I smiled as Olivia shook Amelia’s backpack thinking it was good to see them hanging out again…but when Amelia stumbled forward my blood ran cold.

Olivia practically had her dangling off a cliff.

I ran toward Olivia in time to dig my hand so hard into her arm I could feel my fingernails pressing into bone. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the bewildered look on her face as she recognized me. It wasn’t a save-me-from-falling look; it was a what-the-hell-are-you-doing-here look.

As Amelia sat crying next to her ripped backpack, I heard my ringtone and searched my pockets knowing my phone wasn’t on me as Olivia’s face took on a This Should Be Good look.

“What the hell?” Olivia yelled, pressing my phone into my chest. “Why is HE CALLING YOU?” Her voice turned into a shriek.

~CC’s POV~
My first instinct was to drive fast enough to launch my car into a black hole and shoot out of the other end in time to save Amelia. But there was no way we would make it to the crags in time to stop Olivia. Panicking, I dialed the only person who would be able to help.

“This isn’t a good time.” Jinxx answered.

I heard sobbing in the background. It sounded like Amelia.

“Give me the phone. GIVE. ME. THE. PHONE!” Olivia screamed.

“Stop it.” Jinxx said sternly as the sound of scuffled phone ensued.

“Is that Amelia?” My voice was a whisper as I strained to listen.

“Why are you calling? Why do you have my boyfriend’s number? Where are you? Where’s Andy?” Olivia screamed questions into the phone so fast my brain stopped working.

“Give me the phone.” Andy said angrily.

“He’s. We’re driving. Andy’s with me.” I stopped trying to get a word in and let Andy take the phone.

“Olivia.” Andy said in a tone of voice I’d never heard him use before. Her voice went silent on the other end of the line.

“When I get there.” He paused and took a deep breath. “You know what? Let Amelia talk to Chris, I have nothing to say to you.” He handed me the phone and slammed the car door shut, glaring at his ringing phone in his palm.

“Baby.” Amelia said to me in a quiet sob.

At the sound of her voice, I lost it and couldn’t speak. Tears were falling, my chest was heaving and a million thoughts raced through my head.

“I almost fell off a cliff.” She was crying.

“Are you ok?” I unsuccessfully choked the words out.

She spoke between sobs. “There was. A brown tree snake. Coming at me.” She paused. “Ollie was trying to pull. Me away. I was frozen in fear.” She began ugly crying.

“Wait. What?” My tears stopped.

“Olivia saved me. The snake ran away when she started shaking my backpack, I almost fell and nearly dragged her over the edge with me. Then Jinxx came out of nowhere and pulled us both up. It was so scary.” Amelia’s voice faded back into sobs.

My voice turned into softened words of comfort but all I could think about was how moments ago I’d envisioned Olivia throwing my fiancée mercilessly off of a cliff.

STOP RUINING MY LIFE!” Andy yelled suddenly in the background. I looked out the window in time to see his phone fly gracefully toward the sun, arch and then thud into the dirt next to the highway. He took off running after it.

“Was that Andy?” Amelia could hear.

“Yeah. He left Emily to come home with me.” I paused when I realized Amelia probably didn’t know about Olivia’s lie and this wasn’t a good time to tell her. “I really missed you.” I began fabricating a story on the spot in case I needed it.

“Is that my phone?” Amelia interrupted. “OMG you’re amazing, thank you!”

I watched Andy pick up his phone and throw it toward the sun again.

“Babe, I’ll call you back. Ollie just found my phone!” She hung up a second later. I rolled the window down and overhead Andy mumbling obscenities in the distance.

~Andy’s POV~
CC and I continued to drive in silence after deciding I would spend a few days with my parents. It seemed like a good idea to be back in my home town for a while even if it meant potentially running into Olivia. I had a few choice words she deserved to hear.

I told Emily I needed some time to think and that I’d talk to her more when I got home, but things were different now. I’d let her down and I could hear it in every word she said to me. It wasn’t fair to keep her holding onto my every word, I had to end things with her and sort my life out.

~Olivia’s POV~
Jinxx had me under his thumb.

He knew I’d been talking to Andy and saw me nearly attack Amelia. He was using these things as leverage to get me to go on tour with his band. ‘To get away from it all’ were his exact words. He acted like he thought I was the type to run away from my problems, he really didn’t know me and he never would.

I had our epic breakup fight planned out thoroughly in my head, having rehearsed my moods leading up to the big fight and the facial expressions I’d use. I mean hey, I had to make use of all those theater classes I’d taken in high school right? I’d picked out a few serial killer novels to read on tour, and packed an obnoxious amount of baggage which I’d make him haul everywhere for me. He was going to pay for this, nobody one-ups me.
