~Andy’s POV~
I opened my eyes to darkness, gasping loudly as I awoke from a nightmare. I struggled to forget the details of the dream as quickly as I could by looking at objects around the room which was illuminated by the sliver of moonlight seeping in through the window.

I looked at the dent left in my pillow by my heavy head, then at the blanketed outline of Olivia sleeping next to me.

“Ollie.” I whispered.

“Mmmph.” She groaned.

“You awake?” I asked.

“Mmmph.” She repeated.

I cleared my throat loudly to wake her up but she didn’t stir. I slammed my face against the pillow for some reason thinking the noise would awaken her but she didn’t wake up. I rolled over and lay on my back, squirming as much as possible in the process. I threw an arm over her stomach. She wouldn’t wake up. “Ugh!” I shouted into the night in frustration.

“Huh?” She lifted her head slightly and looked at me with half open eyes. When she saw my frustration she smiled warmly.

“What’s wrong?” She turned to face her body toward me and rested her head on my chest.

“I had a nightmare.” I crossed my arms, nudging her head off my chest by shaking my shoulder gently.

“Go back to sleep.” She sighed with great annoyance.

I tried to fold my arms again. She broke my arms apart, wrapping one of my arms around her shoulders and resting her head on my chest. She fell asleep again within moments.

“I can’t sleep.” I sighed.

She looked up at me, a flash of anger seeping across her face. “You’re thinking of her, aren’t you?” Her voice rose. I clenched my jaw, trying to come up with a good answer to stop a fight before it happened. She glared into my eyes; I avoided looking directly into hers.

“I am so done with this.” She threw my arm off of her shoulder and sat up, bunching her pillow up in her fists.

“You’re through with me because I had a nightmare?” I asked calmly.

She sat at the edge of the bed, glaring at me. “THERE’S THREE OF US IN THIS BED NOW!” She yelled.

My glare met hers.

“YOU, ME, AND EMILY!” She yelled angrily, the animosity in the way she said Emily’s name was palpable. With the pillow still in her hand, she punched me hard in the stomach.

“There’s four of us.” I said, my voice lowering to an almost angry tone as a knot gathered in the pit of my stomach.

“IF YOU SAY HIS NAME, I SWEAR TO….” She hollered.

I looked at her and took a deep breath. She always won arguments; I never had it in me to carry on with the stupid little things we’d get into fights over.

“Jinxx.” I said quietly.

She smacked me hard across the face before I knew what hit me. I was left sitting at the edge of the bed, hair hanging over my face, staring at the floor. She stood up, breathing loudly and angrily like a wolf, stomping around her side of the bed toward mine. “WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!” She yelled.

I remained silent.

“I TOLD YOU NOT TO SAY HIS NAME!” She yelled, standing in front of me at the side of the bed. She brought the back side of her open hand down hard against my jawline.

“I’m sorry.” I whispered.

“YOU’RE NOT FREAKIN’ SORRY!” She pressed both of her hands against my chest and pushed hard until I lost my balance, lying flat on the bed. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. When I opened my eyes again she stood tall next to my side of the bed, staring at me with a crazed look in her eyes. I knew what would happen next, we’d argue, she’d hit me repeatedly, apologize and we’d make up. I’d had enough of it all.
“What are we doing?” I whispered, tears welling up in my eyes.

“What do you mean?” Her facial expression changed and her voice became less harsh.

“We’re fighting again.” I felt a lump form in my throat. Why wouldn’t the fighting ever stop?

“Oh Andy.” She said, sitting next to me on the bed and holding her arms out. Hot tears spilled down my face when I sat up. She wrapped her arms around me as I began to cry, my face stinging slightly from the slaps. We lay down together; she cradled my head to her chest. “When did everything get this bad?” She sighed loudly.

“I don’t even know.” I said quietly, my lips gracing her soft skin as I spoke. I kissed her chest softly.

“Andy.” She whispered. I lifted my head off her chest and looked into her eyes. When our eyes met I remembered the first time I gathered the courage to speak to her in the hallway at school, and I smiled. She smiled back as though she remembered the same moment at the same time.

She gently collapsed her fingertips against the back of my neck as I kissed her softly. I tasted her gentle kiss and smiled at the familiarity of it. She pulled me over top of her, digging her nails into my shoulders and kissing me hard. “Andy.” She whispered again.

I looked into her eyes. “Yeah?” I answered. Why did she keep saying my name?

“Wake up dude.” CC shouted.

What the hell?” I heard the words come out of my mouth. Where was I?

“ANDY, WAKE UP!” CC shouted. My eyes opened. “You were having a nightmare.” CC was cautiously frozen in place.

I looked around the room for Ollie but she wasn’t there. She hadn’t been lying next to me. “Olivia.” Her voice caught in my throat.

“Yeah bruh, you yelled her name in your sleep like she was murdering you.” CC shook his head in disbelief.

My eyes darted around the room in confusion. “I’m here if you want to talk.” He turned the lamp off and lay down on the couch next to the huge theater window; the sound of recycled hotel air quietly blowing was the only sound.

“It was so real.” I looked at the pile of blankets on the couch.

“Your brain is probably sorting that Ollie mess out.” He said, folding a black t-shirt in half and laying it over his eyes.

“I dreamt she was screaming at me.” I stared at the ceiling for a long time thinking of her, remembering her scent, recalling the feeling of our bodies pressed together.

I barely noticed CC sitting up and looking at me with concern. “You’re thinking too much.” He tossed a paddle at me and turned the TV on. “Let’s play CoD.”

By the time the nightmare faded from memory and I felt like I could relax again, the sun was coming up. I was afraid to go back to sleep.

During final exams week last year Emily and I had taken sleeping selfies and sent them to each other. I opened hers selfie on my phone and set it on the pillow next to me, glancing at it as my eyelids became heavy. With dark hotel curtains blocking the bright sunlight and casting a strange glow on the room, I felt myself falling asleep.
