“Destery! What the hell did you do that for?” Chris yelled.

Destery stood looking down at me smirking deviously. “Because he’s a moron.”

“You’re suspended.” Ashley stood next to Chris.

“This is insane; you saw what he did to me!” Destery yelled.

“Jinxx tackled you before you threw the ball because you were too slow. You didn’t need to push Ashley and go after Jinxx.” Chris said.

Diego held out a hand to me. “He’s fine guys, can we get back to playing?” He smiled.

“I want him suspended.” Ashley said firmly.

“BEARDED UNICORNS!” Destery yelled, throwing his helmet to the ground. “KICK ASHLEY OFF THE TEAM!”
Ashley threw his helmet to the ground and stepped closer to Destery.

A whistle blew loudly and the coach stepped between them. “Is there a problem here boys?” He said gruffly.

“Suspend him for attacking.” Ashley said, leaning closer to Destery.

“Get off my nuts.” Destery leaned closer to Ashley.

The coach threw his arms between the two of them and pushed both of them arm’s length apart. “Apologize.” He ordered.

“Sorry.” They said in unison as though this wasn’t the first time it happened.

“Destery take your place over there.” The coach pointed to the far end of the field. “Ashley can begin on the other side of the track.” He pointed. “The two of you will jog it out until I say so.” He looked around at the rest of the team as Destery and Ashley walked away.

Nobody said a word.

“Johnnie, you’re center now.” The coach pointed to Ashley’s spot on the field. “Chris you’re quarterback.” He looked at me and grinned. “The new guy is staying on defense.” He looked around at everybody else in position.

As I took in my spot in line I tried to make eye contact with Chris, not wanting to tackle him. “I’m down here.” Johnnie said, looking directly at me.

I desperately tried to avoid eye contact with Johnnie and coughed to get Chris’ attention. For a moment I considered yelling, ‘Notice me senpai!’

Finally I gave up and looked at Johnnie. I can’t tackle Chris, the only way out of this is to play the stupid card. “What am I supposed to do?” I asked quietly.
