Ashley was momentarily pushed back but took a step toward me again. “What’s your problem?” He said firmly.

“What’s yours?” I barked.

“Bro calm down.” Jake said from behind me, making me angrier. I pushed Ashley again.

Ashley stumbled back a step and stepped toward me again, folding his arms and looking into my eyes.

“Leave Jake alone.” I warned in a low growl.

Ashley folded his arms. “Okay.” He nodded, his face softening dismissively.

“Take a deep breath.” Jake said, putting a hand on my back.

“If you even say his name again, I’ll...” I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

Ashley looked at Jake.

“Jeremy.” Jake said quietly. “Let it go.”

“NO!” I shouted and shrugged Jake’s hand off my shoulder. “I’m done with all of this!” I screamed in Ashley’s face.

Ashley remained calm for a moment but glared at Jake. Ashley’s eyes changed when he looked at Jake, and it made me angry.

“Stop it.” I said protectively. “Don’t even look at him.”

“Okay.” Ashley said through gritted teeth.

I reached out for Ashley’s chest and grabbed a fistful of shirt in my left hand, balled my right fist and held it up like I was about to hit him. Ashley closed his eyes and shook his head.

“STOP!” Jake’s arms flew out, pushing me back and standing in front of Ashley.
I stood with my fists clenched at my side, staring at Jake standing in front of Ashley. Why was he protecting him?

“This fight is over.” Jake said with a cold edge to his voice.

Ashley nodded to me, blood dried on his chin. I nodded to Jake and rolled my eyes.

“It’s about time.” Lauren said, glaring at Ashley and grabbing my hand. She lead me back inside to our trays waiting on the counter.
