Fvck The Haters

When I get bullied, I imagine dancing with my crush at prom. I’m taller than her so her head would be pressed against my chest as we dance. I’d take a tuft of her hair and twirl it around my finger, kiss her smile; I’d be okay because she was mine. I haven’t told my best friend Jake about it, he’d probably laugh at me.

A sharp sting at the back of my head brought me back to reality as a football sailed past. I rubbed the spot where the football hit.

“I said ‘go long’.” Jake shrugged and ran after the ball. He watched to make sure I was paying attention and threw the ball again.

I dropped my backpack on the grass and ran sideways, watching the football fly by as I ran.

“You suck!” Jake yelled.

“Yeah Jakey you suck!” Someone from a group of guys standing by the field goal post yelled. The group erupted into jeering laughter.

“Screw you!” Jake threw his middle finger in the air.

“Sit on it and rotate!” I added, picking up the ball. I regretted it a second later.

“What the hell did you say?” One of the guys shouted at me.

Jake sighed, eyes widening as they began to approach us.
