Love or Infatuation

Friday.


After what happened on Wednesday, Andy's been really close to me. He keeps asking me to hang out, but I'm a little scared. He's older than me and definitely not a virgin. I'm scared to get close but I hate being alone. I mean I've been in love with him since the first day I got to this school, but I guess I'm afraid of intimacy.

I put on my black and white striped knee length dress and my black high top converse. I skip doing makeup and put my hair in a French Dutch braid. I skateboard to school and put my board in my locker. The bell's about to ring, time to get to class.


Lunch.

I just got my first ISU for art today. I have to research a famous artist, do a paper on them, and replicate one of their most famous works. I'm planning on choosing Margaret Keane because of her story. I enter the cafeteria and stand in line to get a bagel.

"Hey, your name's Sam right?" The guy behind me asks, I nod. "My name's Zack."

"It's nice to meet you." I say and step forward. I grab a blueberry bagel with cream cheese on it.

"Nice dress." He says.

"Uh thanks." I grab a can of coke and go up to the lunch lady, handing her a five.

"I'm kinda new here, don't really know my way around yet," he pays for his lunch. "Do you mind giving me a tour of the place?" He wants me to show him around? He could have asked any other girl, believe me they're staring.

"Can you walk and eat?" I ask and he nods. "Okay let the tour begin."

We walk out of the cafeteria and down the hall. "Over there is the art room." I point out.

"Do you like art?" He asks.

"I love it, I'm told I'm quite good at doodling."

"Are you a professional doodler?"

"Yes, in fact I'll be in the next doodle Olympics." We both laugh.

"I'd like to see some of your work sometime." He says.

"If you stick around, you will." I say and turn down a hall. "This is the music room."

"Cool, I have music fourth period."

"What instrument do you play?"

"Drums."

"A drummer and a doodler walk into a bar." He chuckles.

"You're cute, you know that?"

"I'm really not. Right there is the auditorium where drama classes take place."

"What class do you have next?"

"That would be upstairs in the biology lab."

"I have bio too."

"Then let's go."

We walk into the stairwell and pass by Andy, I give him a little way but he frowns at me. I tell to keep walking, that I'll be with him in a minute. I walk over to Andy and cross my arms.

"What?" I ask, unsure of how I've angered him now.

"No this can wait, go catch up with him." He says. I turn on my heel and and return to Zack.

"Was that your boyfriend?" Zack asks. He actually thinks I can get a guy like Andy, surprising.

"No, just a friend I guess." I say.

"So it wouldn't be bad for me to ask you out then." I turn to him.

"Well I wouldn't say yes if that's what you mean. I'm waiting for this one guy, if he ever does."

"Trust me he will, a girl like you, every man's dream."

"No, I'm a nerd."

"Nerds are cool, I'll be right back."

"Where are you going newbie?"

"Outside to get 'a breath of fresh air', if you know what I mean."

"Can I have some air too?" I ask. Okay Andy's going to be mad, but I just can't stop.

"Of course."
