Break Me

Three

Over the next few hours we talk some. He tells me about his love for music. He wants to be a musician someday. He also really likes batman. He smokes, but that doesn't bother me. I'm just happy that I finally have someone to call a friend.
"What are you going to school for?" He asks me.
"Creative writing and English. I wanted to write poetry someday. I have a few poems I've written over the years, but I had a lot to learn. I also wanted to teach English. It was my favorite subject in school."
"Why are you talking in past tense? Please don't tell me you're still thinking of..." He lets his words trail off, but I know exactly what he's thinking. The truth is, I am. Just because he cares now, doesn't mean he will forever. All good things end. He's just given me a little while longer. A little happiness in my mess of a life. But I don't say that to him. I don't say anything at all.
He sighs, gets up, and walks into the kitchen. He comes back with two wine glasses, and a bottle of sparkling white wine. "I was saving this for a special occasion, but this seems as good as any." He pops the cork and fills each glass. I take mine. He holds his glass up to toast. "To new friendships." He says. We clink glasses, and I chug my wine eagerly. I've never been a drinker. I've only ever had a few beers in my life. I know I should take it easy, but right now, I don't really seem to care. He fills my glass up a second time, and I down that one just as quickly.
"You know, this is really good. I'm glad I was your special occasion." I say. He chuckles and finishes his glass. I get up to go to the bathroom as he pours his second glass.
I lock the door and stare at myself in the mirror. Nothing special. Certainly the reason I'm so lonely. My outsides match my inside. Boring, average. I pull my cell phone out of my pocket. I had been avoiding checking it, but I figure I might as well.
Twelve missed calls. Two text messages. All from Jace. A tear escapes my eye, but I wipe it away quickly. I read the first text.
Bailey, you better answer me when I call you. You know better. If this is some sick game your trying to play, you've got a rude awakening. Answer me this minute.
I sigh, and read the second.
I swear, when I get my hands on you, you'll regret ignoring me. How dare you defy me like this. After all I've done for you, you treat me this way? Bitch, you just wait.
I click the lock screen, shaking. I knew this would happen. Man, am I in for it. There's a knock at the door. I flush the toilet for effect, and open the door. Andy is standing there with another glass of wine for me. I take it and gulp it down.
"You alright?" He asks. I shake my head no. His smile falls, concern on his face. I push past him and begin to gather my things. "Whoa, Bailey. What happened? I thought we were having fun." He's hovering over me while I gather everything. I stop and face him.
"This was a really bad idea. I shouldn't have come here with you. Jace is going to hurt me real bad because of this. This is the first time I've ever gone against his wishes. I shouldn't have. I'm sorry I put you through all this Andy, but I have to go." My head is swimming and I know I'm catching a buzz. I get my stuff together and head for the door, but Andy has beat me to it.
"Tell me what happened." He says. He doesn't budge, and I feel like we stand there forever. i groan. Instead of explaining everything, I just hand him my phone. His eyes scan the text messages, and anger lights up his eyes. "Bailey, he doesn't know where you are. It's safe here. You're safe, you hear me? I'm not going to let him hurt you."
"You barely know me Andy! I'm just some charity case you picked up off the street. Don't you dare pity me. I'm nothing, and you damn well know it. Look at me! I'm a mess." I'm screaming in his face, but he doesn't budge. Instead, he wraps his strong arms around me.
"But I do. I know you. I see you, in all your sadness. In all your anger. In all your hurt. You're absolutely right. You are a mess. But you're a damn beautiful mess. I want to be apart of that. You want to know why I stopped you? Why I even care enough to keep you here with me now?" His voice is soft, and I'm curious. I look up into his eyes, waiting for him to continue. "I'm alone too. There, I said it. I don't have anyone either. I never knew my parents. I've been in and out of orphanages my whole life. I never had any friends. No one cared enough to know me. I'm just like you are. We don't have to be alone. We can do this together."
My heart breaks for him, and I step back. "I'm sorry, I didn't know." I say.
"Don't be. Just...don't leave me right now. Just stay. Please."
I nod and return to my place on the couch. We drink a few more glasses of wine, and before I know it, I'm drunk. I start dancing and singing my favorite songs. Andy sits on the couch and laughs at my horrible performance. He claps and whistles at the end of each one. He gets up, and spins me around in circles. I lose my footing and fall full force into him. We land with a hard thud onto the floor. My boobs are in his face, and I'm caught in a fit of giggles. I push myself onto my hands, straddling him. "Sorreey" I slurr. He smiles, a mischievous gleam in his eyes. He grabs my forearms and spins so that he's on top of me. He pins my arms above my head.
"Andyy, let me go!" I squeal and try to wiggle out from underneath him.
"Not until you admit that I am the coolest guy on earth." He says.
"Never!" I cry.
"Fine, I guess I'll just have to do this!" He yells, and begins to tickle my sides. I'm so caught up in giggles, I can't catch my breath.
"Fine, you're the coolest!" I manage between gasps. He stops tickling me, but keeps me pinned.
"See, now was that so hard?" He asks. But his face grows serious.
We're both breathing heavily. His eyes dart to my lips, and he smirks. I bite my lip in anticipation. He looks at me longingly, bringing his face to mine. Our noses touch and my heart pounds hard against my rib-cage. He leans in slowly, and places a gentle kiss on my lips. He pulls away almost as quickly. He looks at me, almost as if he's looking for approval. I smile. We're suddenly hungry for each other. I crash my lips into his and it's like our hearts collide. My hands are everywhere. In his hair, on his chest, down his back. We are both so lonely, so caught up in pain, that we seek hope in one another. He glides his tongue against my bottom lip and I open my mouth. I flick the tip of his tongue with mine and the hunger only grows stronger.
My skin feels like it's on fire. I know I should stop, but I need him. He slides his hand up my shirt and traces circles onto my chest. We never break the kiss as he lifts me up so I'm sitting on his lap. He unclasps my bra and throws it to the other side of the room.
We break the kiss for a moment, staring at each other breathing like we've both run a mile. I try to think straight, but my head is spinning. All I can think of is Andy, and this moment. All I can think is how much I need him. Everything seems perfect, but as I reach for him again, there's a knock at the door.
