Finding Grace

Please Let It Be Perfect

"Leah, babe, that's our flight," Andy shook my shoulder lightly, waking me up from my half-medicated doze.
I rubbed my weary eyes and he helped me to my feet as we walked through the airport and to our flight, the flight attendant taking our tickets and ushering us to first class.
I raised a brow at Andy; he'd really out done himself.
"After the hospital bill I don't see how I can ever afford first class again," I sighed as I sat by the window, the blind shut, and Andy chuckled, pressing a kiss to my cold hand; I was always cold anymore.
"Here," he handed me some headphones. "We'll just watch a movie until we land; it won't take long to get home."
"I hope so," I yawned, leaning my head against his shoulder. "I'm so sleepy."
"Then rest," he told me, "I'll wake you up later."
"Mhmkay," I nuzzled closer, closing my eyes.
We landed way too soon, the plane landing jostling me awake
I cracked open my tired eyes, Andy pulling our bags from overhead.
Crankily, I stood, rubbing my back, and he sent me a worried look.
"You okay, angel?"
"Fine," I grunted. "My back just hurts."
"That's nothing new," he chuckled, taking my hand and pulling me to the front of the plane. We started off the steps, and I quickly pulled my sunglasses on against the glare, keeping my head down to further help.
We shuffled into the airport, it looking exactly the same as the one we had just left.
"I'm so ready to be home," I mumbled. "I'm starving and I'm so tired at the same time."
"You just slept four hours."
"I'm still tired," I shrugged, Andy slowing to a stop after a few minutes.
"Leah?"
"Hmm?" I looked up at him, wondering why we'd stopped.
We were literally an hour from home I wanted to go. My back hurt, I was swollen. I missed my shower --- I could go on.
I pulled my sunglasses off so I could look at him better.
"Leah," Andy moved in front of me, clasping my cold hands in his warm ones. "Don't get mad at me."
I frowned at him. "Why would I?"
"I might have bought us tickets for Las Vegas instead of Los Angeles."
"What?" I blinked at him. "How do you make that mistake?"
"It wasn't a mistake," he tucked my hair behind my ear. "But this was the only way I could get you here."
I narrowed my eyes. "Andy, what are you doing? Why are we in Vegas?"
And how had I completely missed that?
Oh yeah, I'd been sleeping nonstop for the past two days.
"What I should have done three months ago," Andy told me, letting our bags drop to the ground loudly by his feet. "Leah, I love you, I want to take care of you. And the baby. And I want to do this right."
He took a deep breath, as if reassuring himself.
Oh god.
What was he doing?
I looked at him nervously.
"Andy ---."
"Let me finish, please. It's important. My dad was right. We need to do this the right way, Leah. I love you, I wanna spend the rest of my life with you," he murmured, cupping my face, "and I want it to be for better or for worse."
My eyes widened.
What was he doing?!
Was he doing what I thought he was doing?
No way!
He let his hands fall from my face, and then went to one knee in front of me, clasping my hand.
I pressed a hand over my mouth, feeling my eyes start to burn.
Oh my god.
OH MY GOD.
He was doing it!
"Leah, marry me," his eyes blazed up at me as he took my hand tightly in his, slipping a ring off his finger. "Please marry me."
I stared at him, choked up, and nodded, the only thing I could manage without bursting into tears.
I didn't even have to think about it, I loved Andy, and though I'd had so many mixed feelings about getting married, why the hell not?
I didn't have anything to lose at this point.
He grinned up at me, slipping his ring onto my finger and rising quickly, pulling my lips to his.
Cheers burst out around us, and I pulled away in surprise, seeing we'd gathered a crowd of people who were all cheering and clapping for us.
I blushed, and Andy laughed, kissing me again, completely ignoring everyone else as he pulled me into his arms; he'd always been good at that.
"Let's go right now," he whispered in my ear. "I'll buy you whatever ring you want. And we'll go, and get married and go home."
"Are you sure? Right now?" my voice trembled. "I don't want you to do this if ---."
"I can't think of my life without you in it," he murmured, stroking my face. "Now I won't ever have too."
I smiled, and nodded, wiping quickly at my face as he grabbed my hand and drug me through the airport, his stride determined.
I guess we were going to get married.
Actually married.
With all the official papers and rings.
I'd never wanted a white wedding, I'd always wanted something small if I ever did get married, so this would be perfect.
Everything would be perfect.
Please let it be perfect.
