Free Bird

One week later...

Everybody is surrounded by family and friends. I on the other hand am all alone, in the art room. I take it all in one last time. The paints in a chaotic mess on the shelves, the pottery wheel all cleaned up except for the few pieces of dried on clay that will never come off, all the empty walls, that just a week ago were covered in art work from all the classes Ms. Lessy taught. I wipe away the few tears that have managed to escape my eyes, I take one last breath of the air that smells like "home" to me, then I walk towards the door. I take one final look before turning the lights off and walking back to the area where we are supposed to be waiting. When I get back everybody is already in line. I take my spot and keep my head down. As graduation proceeds, and it comes time to announce the graduates, everyone is anxious. With every name called there is applause from friends and loved ones, but... "Neveah Tanner", silence fills the room, followed by absolute laughter from the entire graduating class. I hurry off the stage and take my seat until I hear the words I have been waiting to hear since the first day I ever got bullied...
"Congratulations class of 2014!"

I decided to skip the group photo, nobody would care. I walk home and begin putting all my things in boxes. Move in day is two months away, but I have permission to move in next week. I lay on my bed and put Black Veil Brides in my CD player. I lay there and listen to the soothing words of my favorite band until I fall asleep and dream of the warm beaches of L.A. and of finally being free from this shitty ass hell.
Goodbye assholes, Goodbye NOT, hello new opportunities, and hello NEVEAH OLIVIA TANNER!
