Free Bird

Most of my life has been spent in the dark. From the darkness of the womb, to dreamland darkness, to the darkness provided by the moon. From the darkness that comes from the self-harm, to the darkness caused by other peoples hands, darkness is my safe place, my place where no pain is felt and I can just be who I want to be. The darkness to some is a scary place, but to me... darkness is safer than the light will ever be.

I jolt awake to the sound of beeping and realize that it is my alarm clock going off. I look around and see that I had spent the night on the floor after he had chocked me into darkness. I dragged myself through my morning routine and actually made it out the front door unnoticed. School on the other hand, not so easy. I didn't even make it to the front door before Chris ran over to me and bear hugged me super tight. I whimpered in pain, but he didn't notice, or maybe he did and just didn't care and hugged tighter and tighter until finally he put me down.
"I missed you! I was so worried about you," he says while grabbing my hand, a little to tightly, "come with me, I have something to show you."
I was then pulled around the school to the football field, under the bleachers. He grabs my face, roughly, and begins to kiss me, I kiss back but then... I stop.
"I cant," I whisper, "I can't do this anymore."
"Do what!" he shouts, I know hes angry because his face is burning red, "What can't you do anymore? Love me!? Why?!"
"I..."
"You're gay aren't you! Wait until the whole school finds out that little NOT is gay!"
"Chris, I'm not..."
"That's right, you're NOT! NOT important! Not anything!"
And with that, he storms off towards the school, leaving me there to let out a sigh of relief as a weight was lifted from my shoulders.
