Free Bird

Spring Break. Those two words are what is getting me through this week. I only have one more final next Tuesday then Wednesday Juliet and I hop on a plane to go visit our men in Germany.
"Neva?" I look up to see Shay standing next to me, "You okay?"
I nod, and pray she leaves it at that, but she sits on her bunk and looks at me. I glance her way, but focus on my paper.
"I never got to talk to you" she starts up
I mentally roll my eyes and groan, but decide I'm stuck.
"We have been roommates for two semesters and we are still strangers. I know that's not really our faults, what with our schedules, but I want to get to know you because I want to room with you next semester, but not if we're going to be strangers. So please come with me to dinner, I'll pay, I just want to get to know my roommate!"
I sigh, and save my paper. I turn to her and look this sweet girl in the eyes...
"Shay there is a reason we're strangers. My life is far from rainbows and sugar. Look at your side of the room. Bright colors, pictures of friends and family on your wall, your old high school poms that you held onto in the hopes of making the squad here. Look at mine, dark colors, no pictures, just band posters, because growing up, these bands were the only people I had after...." I pause and let it disappear in the air, "I came here to escape my past, only to have it follow me. I am here to get my degree, to move on in life. Granted I made one friend, but because she has similar interests, and you are a super cool roommate and I would love to room with you again next fall, but I don't want to drag you into a past that wont leave me alone."
She just stares at me for a while, then she gets up and walks to my side of the room. She climbs on my bed and walks over to my BVB poster.
"Andy, Jake, Jinxx, CC, Ashley," she points each on out. "Andy is dating Juliet, Jake is engaged to Ella, Jinxx married his long time love Sammi, only for it to not work out and now he is with Alice, CC is with Lauren, but anyone can tell you they are now starting to get rocky and it doesnt look good, Ashley is known for being the ladies man of the group and the true definition of rock start, but then he met you and I quote 'she has changed my life, I can't picture my life without her'"
She walks over to my three other posters... "Falling in Reverse, lead singer Ronnie Radke, formed the band while he was locked away getting help, and did a song with Andy called Asshole, and did the Black Mass Tour with them while they were here in America. Pierce the Veil, all I know is their lead singer is Vic Fuentes. Bring me the Horizion, again only know the lead singer Oli and that they are originally from England."
She walks over to my bedside table and points at the picture of me and Jessica. "This is the only person back home that matters to you, because it's the only photo from home you have." Then she walks over to me, pulls me from my bed so I'm standing, and points at me... "Neveah Olivia Tanner. The most sweetest girl with a none rainbow past, who refuses to let that define her. Who moved out here to pursue her dreams, who has the coolest eyes in the world, even if they mean she has a disability, who cares! She is my roommate, now, and hopefully for the next three years!"

I stare at her in absolute disbelief as she crosses her arms over her chest and smiles at me. I look her in the eyes as tears form in mine and I say...
"Lead the way to dinner..."
