Free Bird

She sighs as she bends down to pick up her things, expecting me to keep walking. I still haven't talked to my mother since my first night here, even after I found out she saved me and called the ambulance that night. I didn't know what to say, or even if I could say anything at all. What do you say? "Thanks for saving me from killing myself, wish you could've done that the hundred of other times." But I take a deep breath and suck it up. I bend down and help her. She gives me a look of shock.
"What?" I ask harshly
she shakes her head and stands up, she goes to grab what I have but I'm already walking the direction she was headed, so she follows and quickly passes since I don't know exactly where she's headed. She leads me to the teacher parking lot to a beat up bug that looks like it has seen better days.

"This is your car?" I ask in shock.
"What were you expecting me to drive? I'm an art teacher, not a scientist." she replies
"This looks like it could fall apart at any second!"
"Why do you care! You've avoided me the whole time you've been here, and now that you see a part of how I live you care?"
"Don't start with me MOM! You are the one that walked out on US remember?"
"Get in. NOW!" she yells as she pulls open her door
I debate on doing as I'm told, I don't have to listen to her, shes not my mother anymore, not as far as I'm concerned. She starts the engine and revs it a couple times before it dies. I watch her take a deep breath and try it again. This time it stays alive, and I swallow my pride and walk towards the car, but before I get in I take a picture.
-Hey, I want you to know I love you, and if I die in a car wreak in the next however many minutes, meeting you was awesome.-
-WHAT! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!- Ashley
-I'm in my mom's car, if you could call it a car. It looks like it will fall apart if you do over 20mph-
-DONT SCARE ME LIKE THAT!-
-Please stop shouting and I'm being serious. I'll send you a picture if you don't believe me.-
I don't wait for him to respond, I send him the picture I took as my mother pulls out of the lot.
