Free Bird

After my confession of who my horrid new room mate is, they decided it was time to leave. Problem was figuring out the car situation. Juliet rode with Ella and Lauren, Alice rode with Jake and Jinxx, I rode with Andy and CC, and Ashley drove himself. So after 10 minutes we organized ourselves. Juliet, Andy, Jake and Ella in Andy's car. CC and Lauren. Jinxx and Alice. And the one I wasn't expecting, Ashley and I in his car. Simple right? Well we're special. Once we were all settled and left, the awkward silence set in as I sat in Ashley's car.
"Cat got your tongue?" Ashley asked
"No, just surprised you offered to drive me back to campus, I thought you hated me." I inform
A look of hurt crosses his face, but withing seconds it's gone.
"I don't hate you, I am actually scared of you"
I am taken aback by his answer. Ashley Purdy, scared of me? Why? What did I do to make him so fearful of me that he kept a distance.
"Why?"
"I'm not going to tell you, its stupid."
"If it's stupid then it's not worth fearing me. I'm not that bad ya know. I promise I won't bite, unless you want me too." I add with a laugh and a wink.
He chuckles at my joke, but doesn't say anything. I am not letting him off the hook, he will tell me why he is scared of me, even if I have to pry and pry all night long. I am not getting out of this car until I know why. He pulls up to campus, but I stay put.
"Plan on camping out here?" he questions
"No, but I am not moving until you answer me."
He shrugs his shoulders and turns on the radio, and we sit there for three hours listening to the local rock and country stations before he finally takes a deep breath and looks at me.
"The Truth...?"
"Uh, DUH!" I say with a huge smile
"I uh," he says while rubbing the back of his neck, I can't believe Ashely Purdy is nervous, this must be interesting, "The reason, uh, I'm scared of you is...I like you."
