In Death, We're All Believers

I Won’t Dwell On Heaven’s Calling

Keeley’s P.O.V

Death is surprisingly beautiful. It’s not cold or dreary, like in the movies. Instead, the afterlife is warm and comfortable. I think I’m in Heaven.
The angel who took me to Heaven still hasn’t told me her name, but she looks increcibly familiar.

Apparently, now that I’m an angel, I am going to be given a mortal to watch over and guard with my immortal life.

I shift from foot to foot, anxiously awaiting my audience with God. Finally, I hear my name called in a deep, booming voice. “Keeley Grace Robertson. Age 18. Died in an automobile accident. Please step forward and bow before His Eminence, the Lord.”
Hesitantly, I shuffle forward and dip into an awkward curtsy. “Hello, Keeley,” a figure says, slowly turning to face me. God is young, with shaggy blond hair and glowing golden eyes.

“Hi,” I say.

“You have lived a very pure life, Keeley, and so you have been selected as a guardian angel. It is one of the highest honors a mere mortal can receive. Keeley Grace Robertson, are you prepared to receive your assignment?”

This is it. I could get a completely amazing person, or I could be assigned a total jerk! “Yes.”

“Keeley Grace Robertson, I command you to protect, guard, and guide Andrew Dennis Biersack. You are hereby bound to Andrew. Guide him well, Miss Robertson.”

Okay, did I just hear that right? I’m guarding Andy?

The Andy Biersack?

The one I met last night right before I ended up here?

I hear a concealed sob emanating from somewhere behind me. I turn around to see my guardian angel with tears glistening in her eyes. She presses her fist to her mouth in an effort to contain the sobs threatening to spill from her mouth. One solitary red tear trickles down her cheek.

Angels cry tears of blood.

It’s ironic if you think about it.

Aren’t angels supposed to be the purest creatures in the universe, exempt from all pain, heartbreak, and suffering?

For all eternity, blood has represent the hardships of life, the times when we fall down, and the times when we can’t get up.

Clearly, Andy’s name has awakened a long-suppressed emotion broiling deep within her snow-white soul.

She notices me watching her, and dashes the tear from her face, staining her fingers red. “Well, I suppose I should tell you who I am,” she sighs.

“My name is Juliet Simms. Some people call me the Dragonfly.”

Notes
