Keeley’s P.O.V

I’m Falling.

It takes my brain a minute to process the fact that I’m Falling.

I tumble through the clouds, and one single thought plays on a loop in my head.

I’m finally going to see Andy.

Well, if I survive the Fall, at least.

I thought it would hurt.

I thought it would feel like my very heart and soul were being ripped from my body, but all I feel is a cold numbness creeping through my bones.

My wings beat uselessly.

Nothing can help me now.

Gradually, I Fall towards the Earth, and, from up here, I can see the true beauty of mortal life.

Am I a mortal now?

Will I grow old, wither, and die?Funny what one thinks about when one is Falling towards a possibly imminent death.

Where do I go if I die?

Hell, I suppose.

There’s no way God will let me back into Heaven after what I did.

Suddenly, a burning pain rips through my back.

I twist around.

My beautiful snow-white wings are slowly disintegrating into pale flames, the heat searing my back and blistering my skin.

I scream, but there is no one to hear me.

Without the weight of my wings, which are now fragments of ash floating around me like a decrepit halo, I plunge towards the ground. My screams echo around me.

There’s no one to save me from my fate.

Then, my skin begins to prickle uncomfortably. My back erupts in grotesque black blisters.
One by one, the blisters explode, sending black goop flying through the endless air.

The prickling turns to agony.

Midnight black feathers begin to sprout from my back.

Gradually, a set of wings grows from my shoulder blades.

It’s too late, though.

I smash into the ground.

My vision fades.

Is this the real end?

I think it is.
