In Death, We're All Believers

It's Time To Watch You Fall

Keeley’s P.O.V

My large, glowing white wings spread out menacingly behind my back as I angrily stalk towards God’s throne room.

No one will keep me from Andy.

Not even the Creator.

I grasp the handles of the double doors and toss them open, causing them to smack against the marble walls with a dull clang. God sits inside, regal and omnipotent. Twelve pure angels surround him, and they spin around when I walk into the throne room, my expression blank, cold, and harsh.

I merely cast a frigid look towards the twelve angels and they slink out of the room, whispering among themselves.

Looking amused, God settles back onto his throne. “Well, this should be good,” he muses.

I storm up to him. “No!” I shout. “You don’t get to speak. It’s my turn now.”

I take a deep breath. “I saw Andy’s future. I saw his pain, his heartbreak. No one deserves that, so I tried to help him. Imagine my surprise when I couldn’t get through to him. Why did you put up a wall? I only wanted to help. I’m an angel, isn’t it my job to help people? You preach goodness, fairness, and love, but you prevent me from helping him. Are your morals and motives really so warped and twisted that you would prevent a guardian angel from helping the one she is guarding? What is wrong with you? Have you really been up in this false paradise for so long that you have lost sight of the true beauty of life? Not everyone deserves a cruel fate. Some people deserve goodness. Andy deserves goodness.”

Slowly, God begins to chuckle, his shoulders shaking with grating laughter.

Now, I can finally see.

I can finally see the monster lurking behind the shining facade. God never cared about me.

He never cared about Juliet.

He never cared about Andy.

His smooth, sickly sweet voice cuts into my thoughts. “Oh, Keeley. Such a sweet, naive young girl. You’re so pure, so good. Don’t you get it? You’re merely a guardian angel. You aren’t allowed to interfere with destiny. You are permitted to watch. That’s it. I’m sorry that being a guardian angel isn’t everything your little mind cracked it up to be.”

“I’m sorry that you can’t see the good in people.” With that, I spin on my heel and begin to walk out of the room.

“Oh no, Keeley Robertson. I’m not done with you. No one speaks to me in that way.”

I laugh. “Do whatever you want to me. I’ll get through it.”

“Keeley Grace Robertson, I hereby strip you of your duties as a guardian angel. I banish you from Heaven, and brand you a Fallen angel. Now go. Be with your precious mortal.”

Immediately, the ground splits beneath my feet and I sink into the clouds’ waiting embrace.
