My Fallen Angel

Chapter Six: Darkness

A moan of horror escaped my lips as I saw my face in the mirror. Black and purple decorated my right eye, and it was puffy and hurt.
It even hurt to blink.
The rest of my body ached, and there was splotchy bruises everywhere, like I was growing spots.
I tightened the towel around me miserably.
"Kenna?" I glanced over at the door. I had taken a shower on the bus before anyone else had gotten up, trying to rid myself of the smell of the alley. I could still smell it, but it wasn't near as strong.
"What?" I snapped, knowing it was Ashley.
"You okay or what?" he asked, sounding aggravated.
"I'm fine. Go away." I turned back to look at myself in the mirror. I heard him huff, and then he was shoving the door open, and I squeaked in horror, holding tightly to the towel. He shut the door behind him, glaring down at me.
The bus bathroom wasn't a very big one, and the two of us in here made it impossible to move.
"Get out!" I hissed at him.
"No!" his eyes darted across my skin, accessing the damage. "Well, you don't look so bad."
I scowled at him, shifting uncomfortably. "Everything hurts." "It will for a while," he told me, and I glanced at him. He'd thundered in here in nothing but his sleep pants, and as much as I really just wanted to rip his head off and throw him off into an abyss of hell hounds, I had to admit he wasn't bad to look at.
Which made everything so much worse.
I scowled at his chest.
"Can you get out so I can at least get dressed? It's bad enough I have to wear your clothes, but ---."
"Do you ever stop bitching? I came in here to check on you to see if you were okay, and you're treating me like some kind of devil ---."
"You ARE a devil ---."
"--- completely forgetting everything that I've done for you the past week! You could at least show some gratitude!" "Gratitude!" I shrilled, making him wince. "You've made everything so much harder on me! You're snarky, dismissive, arrogant attitude --- you literally demean me in front of every person who comes in contact with me!"
"What?" he squawked. "Are you kidding me? I'm basically housing you!"
"Please!" I rolled my eyes. "You don't even want me here --- you tried to make sure I didn't!"
"Well of course I did!" he glared at me. "You're renowned for your snooty, holier-then-thou attitude towards the rest of us, just because you followed him for sooo long."
I glared furiously at him, my fingers twitching they wanted to strangle him so bad. "That's not true and you know it!"
"Well, it's how the rest of us feel!" he retorted, crossing his arms. "You and the rest of his damned followers."
I felt my eyes flare in anger.
"We're the ones damned, remember?" I hissed, and turned away abruptly. "Now get out!"
There was a brief moment of silence, then he sighed. "Look, Kenali, that's... That's not true. You Fell for an actual decent reason. He'll probably take you back."
"That's not something I'm counting on," I muttered, staring at my distorted reflection; tears were building in my eyes. I just wanted to keep him safe from Seraphine and the others, why was that so hard?
"Hey, please don't. I --- fuck, don't pull out the waterworks." "I'm not," I wept. "Go away."
Everything just hurt, inside and out. I didn't need him making everything worse.
Ashley blew his breath out, then turned me around, his hands warm on my shoulders. "You'll figure all of this out, okay? Don't freak."
"I'm not freaking," I sniveled.
"You're crying like a child."
"So! I can bloody well cry if I want to! Or is that too snooty of an action?"
He glared at me. "I didn't know you were so sensitive, jeez." "You're not making it any better!"
"Will YOU guys SHUT the FUCK UP!" someone suddenly shouted, making me jump as they pounded on the door. "If you're gonna fight or fuck, do it QUIETLY! AND IT BETTER NOT BE ON THE SINK AGAIN, ASHLEY."
I lifted my hand off it in horror.
"Really?" I hissed softly at him as I heard the aggravated human stalk off.
Ashley shrugged, his cheeks a little rosy. "It happens. Jake should be used to it by now."
I scowled at him, and mopped at my face.
Ashley shuffled slightly. "So are you okay now? I only came in here cause I thought something was wrong. Like maybe you'd started your period for the first time or something."
I punched him in the shoulder.
"Ow! Hey, what was that for?"
"You're infuriating!" I hissed at him.
He laughed as he tugged open the bathroom door.
"Only around you, babe," he grinned. "Nice legs, by the way."
I threw a shampoo bottle at him.
