All I Can See Are These Flames Around Me

Peering through the large plexiglas window of the Birthing Center, my eyes darted from crib to crib in search for the one that was labeled Baby Biersack. My heart was racing, my palms sweating, because I knew with each second of scanning over other names I was closer to getting my first look at Caleb.

I bit down on my lip when I found the typed name card displaying Baby Biersack. Tears filled my eyes when I found him, a light blue blanket covered his tiny body, and his hat covered head rest carefully on the pad bellow him. Swallowing the tears that were building up in my throat I kept staring at him.

He’s beautiful.

He’s perfect.

He’ll be strong.

He’ll be confidant.

He will love his mother.

He will have respect for his father.

He’s my son.

A tear rolled down my cheek and I quickly caught if before anyone could see it; even though I was alone in the hallway.

Resting my head against the glass I watched my son as he slept. I didn’t know how many times I would be able to see him like this so I savored every moment trying to make myself remember everything. Placing my hands on the glass alongside my head I bit down hard on my lip trying to stop my sobs from escaping me.

I wish I hadn’t fucked up what I had going with Nikki. I shouldn’t have treated i her like just any other fuck, I knew from the first moment I saw her that she was special. I just wish I could have done something to show her how special she is to me. But all I did was screw her over.

Andrew is a better man that I am. And I know he can take care of Nikki and Caleb a million times better than I ever could.

Peeling myself off the nursery window I let out a ragged sigh. With one last look at my son I walked out of the maternity ward and began my journey home.
