Chapter 38: Elevator Days

“Aw, man! That was the best fish taco I’ve had in my life!” said CC as we walked hand in hand down the hallway towards the bar so I could start my next shift
“Hehe, that’s what he said.” I giggled, being in a much better mood now that I had about one and a half cans of Monster’s worth of caffeine running through my system. He snorted and chuckled. We’ve both been cracking ‘That’s what she/he said’ jokes nonstop since we sat down for lunch about an hour ago.
“I guess I did kind of walk into that one.” He chuckled as he reached the door and opened it for me. There weren’t all that many people in the bar since it was still an hour or two away from happy hour, just a couple of stragglers from the lunch crowd and few people trying to drink away their jetlag. I usually tried to avoid earlier bar shifts since the tips were so bad, but I had volunteered for it today since I had been planning on going grocery shopping tonight so Alex and I wouldn’t starve and so I could get stuff to make CC a nice dinner for when he arrived tomorrow, but clearly the plan now needed some adjustments.
“There you are! I was wondering when you were going to come…” began Kate from behind the bar as we walked in but was interrupted by CC and I
“THAT’S WHAT HE SAID!” we both shouted at the same time, making one particularly inebriated costumer jolt and mutter something that may or may not have been a curse in Swedish
“Jinx!” I yelled
“What?! Where?!” he said jokingly as he pretended to look around for Jinxx
“Dork.” I laughed as we made our way to the bar
“Oh yeah? Well,” he said as he quickly jabbed a finger into my side “poke, you owe me a coke!” I faked an offended gasp.
“Well then,” I said sassily as I returned the favor “poke back, you owe me a six pack!”
“Whoa, I thought CC wasn’t supposed to be here until tomorrow!” said Kate as I walked behind the bar and CC parked himself on a barstool
“I was, but shit happened and my whole trip got moved a day up.” He said still a little upset about the situation. While I did still agree that this whole thing was freaking stupid, I had to admit, I thought it was kinda sweet that he was so upset about having go back on his word.
“Aww, that sucks!” said Kate “You need a drink for your troubles?”
“I mean, I do owe you a coke now.” I added as I took off my jacket and set my tip jar out on the counter
“Yeah, I would, and if you don’t mind I’d like that coke with a couple shots of rum in it.” Said CC with a grin
“Don’t worry, I got you covered, babe.” I replied with a smile
“Oh, wait!” said Kate just as I had turned around to grab him a glass “You know, we have Valentine’s Day coming up, which means we’re going to have a bunch of specials and limited offer drinks, right?”
“…Right?”
“So, since we haven’t really made these drinks before, I was thinking it might be a good idea to get someone to test them out and make sure they’re good…” before she had finished her sentence CC’s hand flew up
“I volunteer!” he shouted
“You sure?” I asked him while Kate started making him a drink “I mean, there’s quite a few.”
“Yeah, of course! Why? Do you underestimate my power?” he asked with a cocked eyebrow
“No, it’s just that I need to go get stuff for dinner after this and I don’t want to have to drag your drunk ass around the store.” I said as I got out my shaker
“Pfft, I’m a big boy, I can handle my liquor! I’ll be fine, just you wait and see!” he assured me as Kate set down his first drink in front of him
~~Fast Foreword to the end of shift~~
Well, he certainly did better than expected. I pulled on my jacket and walked out from behind the bar as Cassidy walked in to take over my shift. I mean, he didn’t do as well as he had expected, but still, not bad considering he’d had five shots and seven cocktails in the span of three hours.
“Hey, babe? You alright?” I asked as I gently shook CC’s shoulder
“BRAINFREEZE!” He yelled with his hands on his head and his head on the bar. I told him chugging the fresa freska was a bad idea. I rubbed his back in circles to help him feel better.
“Come on, babes, it’s time to go.” I chuckled making him groan. After another minute of rubbing his back I gave him a pat “Come on.” This time he lifted his head up and looked at me.
“Do I have to?” he whined
“Yes, we need to go shopping for dinner.” I said
“Ooh, can we have spaghetti for dinner?” he asked as he sat up. Yeah, I think I can arrange that.
“We can have whatever you want, honey, but we gotta go now.” I said. Oh Jesus, I sound like my mother when she’s trying to take my brothers home from a playdate. He stretched and grabbed his phone from off of the counter.
“Alright, I’m ready.” He said as he got up, slid his jacket on and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. The Swedish guy from earlier, whom he’d apparently become best friends with somewhere around his fourth drink, shouted something incomprehensible as he waved at us. “Haha! You too, buddy!” laughed CC as he waved back while we began walking out “Love that guy.” He sighed as we walked out the door.
“You have no idea what he said, do you?” I asked with a smirk as I lead him to the nearest elevator
“Not a damn clue.” He snorted with a laugh just as we reached the elevator. Once the doors had opened and we had gotten on, I pressed the button that would take us down to the parking garage where my car was parked. Note to self: Thank mom again for giving me gas money for this month. CC then went and pressed the buttons for the fifth and fourth floors.
“What the hell, CC? Stop playing with the buttons!” I scolded
“Shhhhush your face.” He said as he put his hand over my entire face “I just wanna get some clothes for tomorrow from my room, mmmm’kay?” Okay, so that explains why he pushed the fourth floor button…
“What about the fifth floor?” I asked as I moved his hand off of my face
“That…was an accident.” He admitted before he wrapped his arm around my waist “Now, are you done fussing at me?”
“I am…for now.” I teased as he pulled me closer
“Well, I guess I’ll just have to find a way to shut you up next time you start.” He chuckled making me snort
“Ha! Good luck with that!”
“Hey, I’m like…95% that I can do it.” He said
“And just how-” I began but was cut off by CC pinning me against the wall. I barely had any time to process what had just happened when he pressed his lips against mine. His lips were so gentle and warm on mine that I hardly cared that they tasted like strawberries and vodka. After a moment he pulled away with a cheeky smirk on his face. Well damn, looks like that fresa freska made someone a little fresa frisky.
“I told you so.” He whispered sing-song in my ear
“You win.” I panted. Not a second later, the elevator doors opened with a ding!
“Going down? Oh, uh, I can see that you are…I’ll just, ah, wait for the next one, then…” stammered the guy who was about to get on the elevator when he saw us, making my cheeks warm up
“Thanks, man.” Said CC as he quickly pressed the close door button
“Don’t mention it.” Mumbled the guy awkwardly as the doors shut again. CC released me and I had to take a deep breath to steady myself before I stood all the way back up. When the doors opened back up on our floor he draped his arm around my shoulders and walked me out while, I bit my lip as I slid my hand up his back. About halfway down the hallway he began to twirl a piece of my hair around his finger, softly brushing against my boob in the process. Oh Jesus, we may not even make it to my apartment if he keeps this shit up.Once we made it to his room, I made the executive decision to wait for him outside since I didn’t want to risk getting ‘distracted’ by him and not getting to the store in time. Besides, we’ll have plenty of time for ‘distractions’ when we get home.
“We still have stuff to do so hurry!” I said
“I know, I know, I know!” he responded from inside his room. After a minute or two of listening to the sounds of him knocking stuff over and cursing when he stubbed his toe, he emerged with his carry-on bag and was ready to go.
“Alright, now just so you know, you better behave yourself in the store.” I said as we started heading back to the elevator
“Pffft! I ALWAYS behave!” he scoffed “Just not necessarily well.” He added after a second

Yeah , I could definitely see him doing the thing with the lettuce . I didn't snort like Hailey did , but I was laughing so much that it turned into the kind where you're not even making sounds , you're just sort of wheezing .
