Stitch These Wounds With Me Tonight

[Jake's POV]

I've been in this hospital room for almost two weeks thanks to complications, but I finally get to go home today. Jinx and I decided it's probably best not to tell Jessa in case something else goes wrong. I don't want her to get her hopes up again. I've always hated letting her down in any way. I know she understands, but I'm her big brother and I'm supposed to be the one to protect her from things like that.

There was a knock on the door.

"If you're not my favorite hot nurse, I'm sleeping!"

"Then you're going to be stuck here a while." Yanni laughed.

"I guess you can come in then. I just finished packing all my shit up, I can't wait to get home. Any news?"

"Not really. The cops have a plan of action, they're just waiting to jump at the right time. No one wants to risk anything or anyone else."

"Let's not, and hope they nail his ass soon." I said while I absent mindedly touched my gunshot wound.

Yanni grabbed a few of my bags, "I'm going to take some of this shit down to the truck. I'll be back as soon as I can to spring you."

[Jessa's POV]

I overheard Yanni and Andy talking in the living room this morning. Yanni is going to go get bubby in a few hours. I'm over the moon excited, but need to play it cool. Just act like I don't know and go about my business. I've been baking a lot lately, maybe I should make something for when Jake comes home.

I walked back to my room and closed the door loudly so they knew I was coming down, and tried my best to look like I have been with Jake gone.

"Jess, cheer up a bit. Jake will be home before you know it." Andy said with half a smile.
I looked to him with my game face on and sniffled a little like I had been crying. "I know. I'm trying to get in a better mood. I just can't help it."

He got up and hugged me. "Like we've been telling you, it's not your fault and he's okay now."

Seems like he bought it. I guess I'm a better actress than I thought. I sniffed again and wiped my face on his shirt for shiggles.

"I'm going to do the usual to take my mind off of things, you know where to find me." I said hugging Andy.

"Brownies this time?" He asked.

"Possibly."

"I'll clean the mess and clean your office for a month."

"Done." I gave him a half smile and walked to the kitchen.

"I call dibs on the bowls!" CC yelled running in to help.

This has to be one of the best days ever. Wegot to work exploding across the kitchen making the brownies. Double fudge for the guys, sea salt with caramel chips for Bubby.

[Jake's POV]

Billie came in and sat with me before she had to start her shift. I ran my fingers over the back of her hand staring at them together.

"I'm going to miss you while I'm working tonight." She said quietly.

"I'm going to miss you checking on me and keeping me company."

I was feeling like a high school kid all the sudden.

"You still want to go out with me after you're out?"

"Wouldn't miss it for anything." I grinned.

She smiled while she watched me playing with her hand.

"I've already got it planned out too, I'll pick you up at 4:00 Thursday. Wear something comfortable."

She raised an eyebrow, "Any hints?"

"We may be getting messy."

"Well that narrows it down a lot Jacob."

"I"ll text you other hints until then."

She looked down at her watch, "I've got to go punch in. Please be careful getting home. I'm worried for you all."

"I will be. A few of the guys from security are taking me home, and I will text you as soon as I'm there."

"Good."

I kissed her cheek making her blush a bit.

"Have a good shift Nurse Billie." I called as she left my room and Yanni came in.

He was waving papers around. "Discharge paperwork is in and we're free to go now."

"WOOOO!" I grabbed my messenger bag with the new songs I had worked on and booked it out the door.

We got out of the elevator on the bottom floor near the gift shop. "Wait, I have to do something before we leave."

Yanni looked at me like I was nuts. I ran in and bought the biggest flower arrangement and scribbled out a note.

I had them sent up to Billie and left feeling light, grinning like a buffoon.
