No One Does It Better

Chapter Forty-Six

It seemed that I couldn't escape what happened at school. News reporters wanted interviews with me, so did magazines so they could publish articles about me that I didn't want others to read. I just didn't want to talk about it, and it seemed only Ashley and the guys understood that.

"There's another one," Ashley said, and he handed me an envelope. I opened it, and I read it.

"Wait. What the fuck?" I asked as I read who it was from.

"What?" Ashley asked as he approached. I let him read it, and he scrunched up his eyebrows.

"Isn't that your dad's name? I mean, it's got his first, middle, and last. Even has your last name there," he said.

"This can't be right. My dad is dead," I said.

"Apparently not, baby," Ashley said.

"But I was told so! I remember some officials telling me my dad was dead," I said. I set the letter on the table, and I sunk into a chair. Ashley picked up the letter, his eyes scanning it.

"And what's the chance that he lives in Los Angeles?" Ashley asked, turning the letter around in his hands and showing me the address. My eyes widened.

"We have to go there. We just have to," I said. I gathered up a pair of shoes and socks from our room, putting them on while I went to grab my purse.

"Right now?" Ashley asked, suddenly seeming nervous," I looked at him, and I stopped what I was doing.

"Yes. You met my brothers just fine, Ashley. This isn't much different," I said. He nodded and he grabbed his car keys. He followed me out the door, the letter in his hand.

"Do you know where this address is?" I asked him once we were on the road.

"Yeah. The address looks familiar," Ashley said. He grabbed my hand, and he laced his fingers through my own.

About twenty minutes later, and we pulled up in front of a huge building. It was a hotel. We walked in, hand in hand, and we approached the front desk.

"How can I help you?" The receptionist asked.

"Can we get the room number for Jared Biggs?" I asked nervously. The receptionist nodded and started typing on her computer.

"Mr. Biggs is on the third floor, room two-thirteen." I nodded, and we both walked over to the elevator. Ashley hit the third floor button. I waited impatiently for the elevator to stop, and once it did, I pulled Ashley out and down the hall in the right direction. We stopped in front of room two-thirteen, and I knocked, gripping Ashley's hand tightly. The door was pulled open, revealing a man who looked to be in his late forties, early fifties.

"Dad?" I asked. He smiled, and he held his arms out for a hug. I released Ashley's hand, and I threw my arms around my dad's neck.

"I am so proud of you, sweetheart," he whispered, and I hugged him tighter, letting myself cry, because I'd wanted to hear those words for a long time. I stepped out of the hug, and I looked at Ashley as I wiped my face dry.

"Daddy, this is Ashley. Ashley, this is my dad," I said. They shook hands, and we were invited inside.

"So Ashley. You're in Andy's band, right?" My dad asked Ashley when we sat down at the table.

"That's right. Yeah," Ashley said, grabbing my hand over the table. He was seated on my left, and my dad was across from us. He eyed our hands, a smile displaying on his lips.

"How long have you guys been together?" My dad asked. I bit my lip.

"About a year. More or less," Ashley said.

" We actually have two big surprises for you," I said with a smile.

"You do?" My dad asked. I nodded.

"Yeah.. we're engaged... and I'm pregnant," I said. My dad looked very surprised.

"You mean... I'm going to be a grandpa?" He asked. I smiled, nodding.

"And you get to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day," I said happily. My dad held his hands up to his mouth, and my vision started to blur, and everything felt distant. Everything faded to black and I opened my eyes, shooting up in bed. My breathing was heavy. Ashley was asleep beside me, and I placed my head in my hands. I couldn't believe it. It was all a dream. It was all a horrific dream.

The only thing that was correct about the dream was the fact that everyone wanted to interview me about what happened at school. We were getting calls, e-mails, letters in the mail, everything. The phone rang, and I rushed out to the kitchen to answer it.

"Hello?" I said, rubbing my face.

"Miss Biggs? This is your doctor. We're going to need you to come in as soon as possible."

"Why? What's wrong?" I asked tiredly.

"Were you aware you missed your last two appointments? We need to check up on the baby, and we need to make sure everything's going smoothly," he said.

"Oh. Yeah. Everything's been a little hectic the last few weeks. I'll come in today," I said. He scheduled me an appointment for three o'clock, and I returned to bed after writing it down.

"Everything okay?" Ashley asked when I returned.

"I have an ultrasound appointment today," I said, and I curled up against Ashley, drifting back to sleep.

~~

"Alright, Miss Biggs. Let me see," my doctor said, and he started my ultrasound, looking at the screen, searching for my baby.

"There we ar- woah!" He said, and I gripped Ashley's hand tightly.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Congratulations! You're having twins!" He said. He left to go print it, and I looked at Ashley.

"Twins?" I asked. Ashley stared at me. I tossed my head back, and my doctor returned with the ultrasound picture. He handed it to Ashley, and he cleaned me up, and he let us leave.

"See you again next month!" He called.

When Ashley and I got home, we were still at a loss for words. Twins!? I couldn't handle twins! What would the guys say? Ashley handed me the picture, and I looked at it. They were labeled A and B, and I covered my mouth with my hands.

"I was actually starting to wonder why you were so big for only being a month pregnant, but I was a little scared to say anything.

"But still, I'm not even that big," I said. Ashley just kissed me, and I wrapped my arms around his neck.

"Come on. We have to tell the guys," Ashley said once the kiss was broken. We headed back out towards the car, and we stopped at CC's place first. We knocked, and he let us in.

"What's up?" He asked. I handed him the ultrasound picture, and he looked at it. His eyebrows were scrunched up.

"What does this mean?" He asked, handing it back to me.

"We're having twins," I said.

"Wow. Really?" He asked, pulling me in for a congratulatory hug. I hugged him back.

"Congratulations, you guys," he said, hugging Ashley as well.

"We're going to go tell Jake and Ella," Ashley said. CC nodded, and he let us go. We left, making the short drive to their place. We told them, and then Jinxx, and then we made our way over to Andy's.

"Guys, I don't have time right now. Whatever it is, I think it-"

"Andy. We're having twins," I said. He stopped rambling, and he smiled wide.

"Tell me you're joking," he said. I shook my head and handed him the ultrasound picture. He took it happily, and he hugged me tightly.

~~

I was four months pregnant now. You could clearly see I was pregnant now, and Ashley and I were in our way to find out the genders. I couldn't be more excited, either.

My doctor took my ultrasound, and he smiled at the screen.

"Two boys and a girl," he said. Ashley spit out the water he had been drinking.

"Two boys and one girl? I thought it was twins," he said.

"Looks to be triplets, Mr. Purdy," he said with a smile. He then left to print out all three pictures, and I looked at Ashley in horror.

"I can't push three babies out of my vagina!" I exclaimed.

"Well, it's either that or a cesarean section, baby," he said, "you've got two choices. And if something goes wrong with natural delivery, then you have no choice but to get a c-section."

"How do you know all that?" I asked.

"I did my research when it was just two babies," he said.

"What are we gonna do? I'm out of school next month, and everyone knows I'm pregnant, because they can see it now... and I just... I didn't even tell anyone when it was two babies. What are they gonna say when they find out it's three?" I asked. Ashley shook his head, and my doctor returned with all three pictures. He handed them to Ashley, and he cleaned the gel off my belly, and we left.

"And we have to host a dinner tonight too," Ashley said.

We pulled into the driveway right as CC and Andy showed up for dinner. Ashley helped me out of the car, and we let them inside. We followed them in, and we left the door open. We pinned the three ultrasound pictures up in the dining room above the table where the others were.

"Take a look, if you wish," I said, and CC rushed forward, looking at them excitedly.

"I still don't know what these mean," he said.

"Well, we're going to tell you all at dinner about what they mean," I said as Ashley left for the kitchen to get dinner ready. CC nodded and walked away to go sit on the couch. Jinxx showed up minutes later, and I greeted him with a hug.

It wasn't long after Jake and Ella arrived that dinner was ready. We all served ourselves, Ashley and I taking the spots at each end of the table. Jinxx, Jake, and Ella sat on one side, and CC and Andy sat on the other. CC looked at me expectantly, and Ashley caught on.

"So, we have an announcement..." he said, setting his silverware down.

"We're not only having two babies, but there's a third. And there's two boys and a girl," I said. The table erupted in conversation about this news.

"So, have you thought of baby names yet!?" Ella asked excitedly.

"We haven't even started on the nursery yet."
