My Life

One week has passed and I'm supposed to meet with Alex at noon. Andy, the kids, and I have already moved into our new house. The place has six bedrooms and four bathrooms, it's modern style but not cozy.
Anyways, I'm driving down to Alex's house to get those papers signed. I park the car in his driveway and walk up to the door. I don't know whether to knock or ring the doorbell. I push the little button and wait. Alex opens the door with a big smile.

"Scar, you're here, come inside." He says.

I walk into the place I lived for fourteen years in and we walk into the living room. He sits on the couch and pats the seat next to him. I guess he wants to sit and talk. I walk over and sit as far away from him as I can on this couch. It's not even big enough to be called a couch, it's more of a love seat.

"Alex I really just need you to sign the papers so I can be on my way." I tell him.

"Yeah about that, I kinda burned the papers as soon as you sent them." He says.

"Why didn't you tell me that when I visited you last week?" I ask.

"Because I needed a reason to get you here so I could talk to you in private." He scoots a little closer.

"What do you want to talk about?" I impatiently ask.

"How about you and the kids, how are you guys?"

"We're happy, we just moved into a new house and little Sam's coming along as healthy as can be, at least that's what Dr Brennan tells me."

"You already have a name?"

"Yep."

"How long till you're able to determine the gender?"

"Doc says since I'm ten weeks now, maybe in a month I should go in for an ultrasound to determine the gender of Sam."

"And I see the start of the baby bump Sam's giving you. Do you have a middle name?"

"I was thinking William. Uh Alex, if we're not going to discuss the divorce, I think I should go now."

"Please don't leave, I don't want a divorce. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I've always wanted that. I love you and I know you love me too, you wouldn't have married me in the first place otherwise."

"Alex I love you and always will love you, but I'm not in love with you. I've loved every second we spent with each other, but our puzzles pieces never quite fit each other's. I'm sorry but I need this divorce."

"No this is your pregnancy brain talking, I know you, you don't want a divorce."

"No, you knew me, but I'm not that girl anymore. So the next time I come back here you will sign those divorce papers. If you truly love me like you claim, then you will do it."

I get up and walk out the door. I get in my car and drive home. As I get in I'm welcomed by Ella and Jake.

"Hey guys, what are you doing here?" I ask.

"Well we heard about the baby." Ella says.

"And Ella went out and bought you a lot of shit for the little rascal." Jake says.

"Thank you!" I say hugging Ella, then Jake. "Uh where's Andy?"

"He's off buying groceries." Jake says.

I walk into the living room and sit down on the couch. Yes this piece of furniture is big enough to be called a couch.

"Where's Amy and Johnnie?" I ask.

"Amy went out with a blonde girl, I think her name was Alex or Alice. And Johnnie's in the kitchen with Jess." Ella says.

"Okay well if you guys don't mind, I think I'm going go lay down for awhile." I say.

I get up and walk up to my bedroom. I lye down on my black king size bed and fall to sleep.


I wake up and it's still dark out. I check the time, it reads 1:24am. I get up and go downstairs to get something to eat. As I walk down the stairs, the door opens. Amy and Alice walk in. They're giggling to each other and Amy turns on the light.

"Girls." I say and they turn to me and are silent.
