We Are Unbreakable

Kimbers POV

"Hey sweetie, how was your first day?" I asked as he climbed into the car.
"It was great! I met Kellin Quinn's step son Liam. And I met a few other people that seem nice, but yeah. So different to Minnesota..." He trailed.
"Good different or bad different?" I questioned.
"Oh, definitely good different. I wish I got to live with you sooner mom" he said giving me a sad face.
"I wish that too."
I couldn't stand when he talked like that. There was nothing I could have done. I wasn't going to take him out of his home to be with me.
After driving in silence for a bit I thought I better tell him that we weren't going home.
"Hey, umm Seth, I have to work tonight and CC won't be home till later, so is it okay if I leave you with Riley for a bit? CC will pick you up as soon as he's finished" I said hoping he would agree.
"Is Riley that friend that awkwardly ran out on you that morning?"
"Yeah" I said slowly. "But she is fine now. She had been going through a tough time, but I'd really like it if you got to know her. She's the first person who treated me like a friend when I moved here. I think you would really get along with her" I said trying to convince him of my argument.
"Sure. She is Ashley's wife, right?"
"Yeah. You like Ashley don't you?" I asked.
"Like? Like is an understatement. He's awesome!" He said chuckling.
I chuckled with him. "Don't tell him that. He doesn't need a bigger head."

Rileys POV

I had literally been pacing the entire house stressing out. I had to look after Seth... What the hell... I can't do this... I should have just swapped with Kimber and I do the afternoon. I'm the fucking boss, why didn't I? Oh, right... Cause I'm an idiot.
Too late now. They were on there way.
Maybe this would be good for me... Spend some time with Seth and get to know him. I mean, things are different now. I've accepted that I'm not having kids and that I will pursue other hobbies, like my singing... Or being a tattoo enthusiast. I was on that fast track...
I shook off my nerves and headed for the kitchen to grab a drink of water.
I took a long swig before sitting back down at the kitchen table with all my drawings for my tattoos and my laptop open for inspiration.
I was working on my sugar skull piece. I planned to incorporate my mother into it. I'd have the main face look like her, with a sugar skull design and then have her holding a plain skull, kind of representing my dad. It was all in my head, didn't mean it would work how I wanted...
I lost my train of thought when the door bell rang.
Cold sweat made itself known on the back of my neck as I looked towards the door.
"Just do it Riley... He's just a kid" I said to myself.
I willed myself to get up from my chair and make my way to answer the door. I grasped the door handle and let it swing open.
"Hey guys" I tried to say calmly.
"Hey Riley. Thank you so much for taking Seth for a bit. You know the guys will be working late" Kimber say all cheery.
"It's okay. Happy to" I said giving a nervous smile.
"Seth, be good. Don't torture Riley too much, okay?" She teased.
"Of course mom" he said rolling his eyes.
I giggled and smiled at him.
"Okay, I'm gonna go. Be good. Both of you" she said pointing to each of us before leaving for her car.
"She can be so weird sometimes" Seth commented when she left.
I couldn't help but laugh at him again. "You've seen nothing yet!"
Seth gave me an odd look.
"Don't worry, she won't embarrass you or anything. Come on, get inside" I said stepping out of the way.
"Thanks. Sooo, you're Ashley's wife?" He asked.
"Yeah, so I've heard."
"So you've heard?" he questioned.
"I'm kidding. I am. You just haven't seen the stuff online that people say. It's really funny to read and stuff. Umm, did you want something to eat or drink?" I asked.
"Sure" he said shrugging.
I lead him towards the kitchen and I started to look through the fridge.
"Hey, what's all this stuff?" He asked.
I turned around and saw him studying my drawings.
"Oh, they are my tattoo designs. It's kind of my new project."
"These are so good! When are you gonna get it done?"
"Umm, next week is session one. It's gonna hurt so much, but it's worth it" I said turning back to the fridge and grabbing a can of coke and the bowl of cut up watermelon.
"You eat fruit, right?" I asked placing the coke in front of him and the watermelon between us.
"I'm not picky" he said sitting at the table in the chair next to mine.
"Good, cause that's all we got. We try and eat semi healthy around here" I said grabbing a piece and scrolling through my laptop again.
"Can I ask a question?"
"You just did" I said being a smart ass.
He laughed, understanding my joke.
"But yes, you can" I said.
"Why'd you leave randomly that morning?"
This is what I hated about him being older. He understood things.
"Well, I had been going through a rough time with Ashley and I had been really sad about lots of things. I just couldn't really take much more I suppose..." I said trailing off.
"Ohh, well, things are better now?"
"Yeah, I have new things to be stressed about. But a good stressed" I said giving him a nervous smile.
"That's good. I think everything will work out" he commented.
"Why do you say that?" I asked giving him a curious look.
"Just cause... I don't know... I have that feeling. It's a good one."
I smiled down at him and how he could possibly know all this. "Well I hope so."

Later CC came to pick up a very tired Seth and Ashley arrived home not long after.
"Hey doll" Ashley said coming into the kitchen.
"Hey baby, how was your day?"
"Usual. I'm more interested in yours" he said sitting beside me at the kitchen table.
"It was actually good. Seth is a great kid. He just... He gets it. I don't think that makes sense, but he is just so happy and loves all this" I said smiling at the thought.
"Well, I'm glad you spent some time with Seth, but I can see that looking after Seth wasn't the only thing you've done today. Riles, these sketches are awesome!" He commented.
"Nahh, they're okay. Jackson is the real artist, I'm just helping him."
"What is with all this tattoo stuff? Another hobby?"
"I suppose. I just have a list of all the tattoos I want and what better time than now. I mean, with my music career, I'm happy to keep that low key, but Jackson said that if I plan to get all the tattoos I want, I can model for the shop!" I said excitedly.
"What did I tell you! I knew that billboard would lead to something like this! And it is awesome you're getting more ink. I'm not opposed to you getting a tattoo of me" he said sitting back in the chair and smirking.
"Ha ha, we'll see. This one is basically a tribute to my mom, as well as my love for sugar skulls. But I plan on getting her name across my knuckles on my right hand."
"Wow, you've really thought about this..."
"Let's make a deal. If you get a tattoo of me, I'll get one of you."
