Jinxx POV


Everyone had left to do what they did. Normally to the village to get some food, or in this case, Andy had knocked a bolt from the dungeon door loose last time. Sure we could fix it, but we needed a new, stronger bolt first. Why they all needed to leave was beside me.

I sat in my room, practicing. I strayed from the dark arts. That was what made you go crazy. Necromancers especially. They were the ones who brought back the dead, they would shape shift, and also made others love them. They were scattered across the forest. But you rarely saw them. They hid in the shadows, only came out at night. They were nightmares from the boogieman’s dreams.

We had come across one before. He was in the form of an old man. Andy was too young to know, but he opened the door anyway. Those kind of necromancers just wanted to fuck with you. But most of them craved blood, death, and chaos.

While practicing a protection spell I felt him. I could always feel the presence of another magic wielder. I ignored it. The castle was protected. They could not enter without being invited. I just hoped that it wouldn’t shape into a form that Kenna would pity. She had a kind heart and it was a weakness in the forest.

I heard footsteps charging down the stairs. “Shit.” I mumbled dropping everything I was doing. I bolted out of the door and could faintly see Kenna running toward the front entrance. “Stop!” I yelled running after her. She ignored me and opened the front door, leaving it ajar. She ran into the court yard. “What the fuck? Stop!” I continued yelling anything I could to get her to stop. If she came in contact with this one, she would die. This was no ordinary necromancer. Kenna cried out to the thing. She was obviously unaware of the giant black figure standing in front of her. It was not human, it had old black skin, ears of a hyena, and a muzzle in the shape of a dogs. It drooled over her. Its hand consisting of three long claws. “No…Kenna!” I screamed knowing exactly what it was about to do.

The thing drooled and licked its lips reach its hand to position at Kenna’s stomach. Kenna turned to face me. It seemed to smile and plunge its hand into Kenna’s back. She gasped, blood running down her mouth and onto her chest. She stretched her arms out to the side. It stared at me, happy with what it had done.

Anger took over. I gave that fucker everything I had. It tore its hand out of Kenna. She fell forward. Lying in a pool of her own blood. The necromancer lunged for me. It took everything I had to keep it within arms distance. Fire, pain, ice. It was all useless to this thing trying to come at me. If it wasn’t for whatever distracted it I would have died right along with Kenna.

It jerked its head around and bolted away. I fell to my hands and knees exhausted. I crawled over to Kenna and felt no pulse. I pounded my fist on the ground. I was took weak. If I tried to get her back I would pass out too. And then both of us would be left out here, vulnerable. I got to me feet, shaking, I dragged her inside, leaving a trail of blood.

When we were both inside the castle I shut the door and got back down on my hands and knees. Not only had she lost a lot of blood there was poison in her system. That’s what they do. If you don’t die right away from the wound, you’re dead in a few weeks from the poison.

I placed my hands over her heart. I pounded at her chest, hoping to start her heart. “Please!” I screamed, my hands covered in blood. I continued to pound at her chest until she took a deep breath and started to cough. “Fucking Kenna,” I laid my elbow on her chest and rested my forehead on it.

She was still unconscious and I still had to seal her wounds and pull out the poison. This was going to be difficult. She had a 40% chance of survival. Andy was going to kill me.
